Tri City Corner Tires

Kevin,,,why don't you do something about your "HUGE" corner tires. I seen them tear up 3 cars last night. Can't you use something smaller? Just a thought.

I didn't see them jump out in front of anyone last night.

If the drivers can't see where they are, then they shouldn't be out there!!

Kinda what I was thinking too. Many other tracks use the same type of tires so really TCS is no different than the norm. Drivers just need to be aware of the risk of driving that close to them and expect the worst if they get into them. I think they should take the walls down too, I'm sure at least 3 drivers got into them too throughout the evening. LOL!

So Bruce Unterbrink was just racing too close to them in his heat race then.

I agree with racing too close, but when you get shoved into it, that is great news for your frame builder.

There in lays the problem, you don't usually get into the tires on your own. Usually you get help and the person that helped you gets away scott free.

that's why it's called 'racing'. sometimes stuff happens, but smart drivers dont put themselves in a position(at least regularly) that they can get crashed easily. 100 or so cars there each night? 3 had a problem? i say its not a tire issue.stay away from the tires. simple.

You don't always get into the wall on your own, or into another car on your own. It's part of racing. You know it's there. The possibility is there. Just something you have to deal with.

When u have a so called driver turn left from the outside wall and run stright into your right side that will run u into the tire and tear your car up and he can keep going .

It wasn't tires that tore up race cars as bad as that hole in turn 3 and 4, when 20 L M cars start and 6 finish then something is wrong. besides the tires were not a big issue, if three cars got into the tires and at least 8 cars got tore up because of a hole i think the hole would be worse. JMO

It's just that usually drivers don't need anymore obstacles than are already there. I have watched almost all the incidents with the tires so far and only a few have involved the driver running himself into them, most were done to avoid a wreck, another car or they were pushed down into them. I know that the tires serve to outline the boundry to the track but I've seen other successful ways of doing so. Try a berm, usually cars will ride it but you can guarantee only the lf will. If tires are going to be used try some softer ones

That is a good point. But...if you donot put tires up..even a berm wont stop some of the yawhos from flying through the infield to gain spots..or better yet...race! There are firemen...officials...Jimmy Dearing...Kevin Gundaker...Jimmy Dearing(had to say that....2x because..im sure he appreciates the opportunity to get those good shots without getting run over). They tried the Berm at Godfrey 1 year. Guess what happened? The groove got lower..lower...lower and actually...if a car hits it just right..sets it up even better. I agree..it would be nice to do without. But..no walls(as Flyinwiz said). That will cross your eyes in a heartbeat

Tires. Maybe softer & half the width . Or do that thing where I guess they bury tires in the ground so half of it is sticking out and they form the inside line .

Keep cars on track ... move tires out ...

If they take the tires away, you'll have drivers trying to make the track a 1/4 mile by running on the infield. This will cause the dry infield dirt to be kicked up on the packed track and it will make it too hard to run on it.

Seen this happen week in and week out at Godfrey, Highland, Mt Vernon... those tracks that use small tires to mark the infield or move the tires so far in the infield that there is a car width between the end of the track and the tire.

It doesn't happen at I55 ... Why? If the driver gets too low he'll hit a WALL so why do they stay away from a WALL and NOT tires?

Maybe what Kevin needs to do is put tires side by side all around the track to build an entire "wall" of tires except for the corner and back stretch opening.

If they removed the tires, you'll have a choo-choo train on the bottom by the tires.

If Kevin sees the cars running by the tires, this means there is loose dirt near the tires. He needs to move the tires out to keep ALL cars on the same surface.

There is a 70 foot wide racing surface. USE IT and KEEP OFF THE BOTTOM away from the tires.

but do you realize how much more stuff gets torn up at I-55 because of the infield wall? i think kevin should leave it alone because Tri-City not having an infield wall just leaves an escape route for drivers that almost spin but save it. it gives them a chance to get off the track. at I-55 if you almost spin theres nowhere for you to go to get out of the way of the other drivers... in my opinion that just causes more drivers to wreck while they're trying to miss the car that spun out.
