Michael "Mike" F. Meurer

Michael “Mike” F. Meurer, age 63 of Edwardsville, IL, formerly of Collinsville, born August 28, 1948 in East St. Louis, IL, passed away at 5:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, CA.

Mike worked in the Insurance Industry in Claims Management for over 35 years. He was retired from Fireman’s Fund and after retirement he worked for Marathon Administrative Services Company in O’Fallon, IL as Director of Sales and Marketing. He was a Vietnam army veteran.

He was the past President of the Collinsville Rotary Club, member of the VFW Post #5691, American Legion Post #365 both of Collinsville, Collinsville Knights of Columbus, former Collinsville City Council member, Kahok basketball and football announcer, and former Director of the Collinsville Chamber of Commerce. Mike was the founding father of the Sigma Phi Chapter at SIUE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Bernice nee Diaz Meurer, and a step-mother Virginia Meurer.

He is survived by his wife, Tina Kassing Meurer, whom he married October 25, 2005; son, Robert (Meghan) Meurer of Edwardsville; daughter, Christy (Kris) McClusky of Maryville; three grandchildren: Cole, Kendall and Kamdyn McClusky; sister, Pat (Mike) Neil of Collinsville; Step-Sister, Jan (Mark) Eversmann of Collinsville; two nieces: Sara (Bob) Toth of Collinsville and Lindsay Eversmann of Collinsville; nephew, Jared Eversmann of Collinsville.

Visitation will be 2PM to 9PM Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center, Maryville, IL 62062.

Funeral mass will be 11am Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 207 Vandalia, Collinsville, IL 62234 with Fr. John Beveridge officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5 Schiber Court. Maryville, IL 62062 or the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674.

I am in shock this day is here... Lord, Please lay your hands upon all as we say our farewell to the greatest Talker Guy ever.
 
There were lots of people there at the viewing. There was a line just to get in of 40 to 50 people outside and an equal amount in the line inside. It took me about an hour to get though and that was at 5:00 P.M.
