Tungate Takes A Thriller at Bluegrass Speedway

Bardstown, KY-June 4- With 97 race cars signed in for racing, Bluegrass Speedway hosted a regular racing program that saw feature events won by Tim Tungate of Campbellsville, KY in Late Models, Brian McCubbins of Bardstown, KY in Street Stocks, Joe Gray of Cecilia, KY in Modifieds, and Timmy Glazer of New Haven, KY in Sportsman.

The Late Model main event would see Timmy Yeager motor to the race lead, with Johnny Wheeler, Dustin Neat, Cody Mahoney, and Ed Behn giving chase. Behn would go to fourth on lap 3, while seventh place starting Tim Tungate would charge early and take the fifth spot from Mahoney on lap 4. Behn and Neat would settle into a battle for the third spot on lap 5 and would continue to mix it up until the duo made contact in turn three on lap 7, with both drivers looping their mounts, with Behn calling it a night before action resumed. Back underway, Yeager would continue to hold the top spot, with Wheeler, Neat, and Tungate would settle into a three-way dance for the runner-up slot that would see the duo race three-wide, with Tungate on the bottom, Neat in the middle, and Wheeler on the top shelf, for the better part of the next five circuits before Tungate would win the battle for second on lap 13, with Wheeler now third, Neat fourth, while Lee Devasier would ride in the fifth slot. Billy Dever would now pressure Devasier for fifth and would claim the spot on lap 16. Meanwhile, Tungate would run down Yeager and the veteran duo would battle side by side for the top spot beginning on lap 18 before Tungate would drive off of the bottom side of turn four on lap 20 to nose out in front. The lead pair would catch slower traffic on lap 22 and begin to weave in and out of the slower cars, with Tungate holding on to become the sixth different Late Model feature winner of '05 at Bluegrass in the Logan and Jane Parrott owned Guardian Mortgage/ White's Construction/J & L Title/The Children's Palace/Shelly's Hot Styles/WMB Motorsports/Price's Grocery/James Medical Equipment/Phillips Lanes/Cox Properties/MDW Transport/Ancil Reynolds RV/ABC Child Care/K&N Performance Filters #18 C.J. Rayburn Race Cars, AMS Race Engines powered mount. Yeager would take second, with Wheeler going third. Dever would slide past Neat on the final lap to claim the fourth spot. Cody Mahoney headed up the second five, followed by Joey Daniel, Dennis Roberson, Billy Barber, Jr., and Mike Hawley. Twenty-seven entries saw Devasier set the SpeeDecals Vinyl Graphics fast time, while Yeager won the dash. Tungate and Daniel were heat winners, while Benji Lee won the B-main.

The Street Stock main event would see Brian McCubbins lead the way in capturing his first ever Street Stock main event in his Advanced Production Systems/Painter Sign/Let's Roll Trucking/Big O Tires/Mahoney Trucking/ Consolidated Electrical Distributors/McCubbins Welding/Glaswell's sponsored #74 Chevrolet. Daroyl Samples would take runner-up honors, with Willie Edelen, Doug Estep, and Tim Leake completing the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Boss Leake, Robbie Settles, Cam Taylor, Brad Mattingly, and Bruce Kinser. Twenty-one entries saw McCubbins set fast time and also win the dash, while Joe Blair won the heat.

The Modified feature would see Joe Gray grab the lead from Josh Lucas on lap 2 and survive several caution flags to take his first win of the 2005 season at Bluegrass Speedway aboard the Tom Ballard owned Team Loco-Motive/The Mower Shop/Conway Heaton Ford/Ace Signs and Graphics/Bunbakers of E-town #84 Bandit Race Cars, Mattingly Race Engines entry. Jason Wheatley would slide by Lucas with two laps remaining to claim the runner-up spot, with Lucas taking third. Robbie Gullion and Dion Benningfield would round out the top five. Completing the top ten were Adam Gootee, Mike Watson, Joey Jones, John Bryan, and Gary Isaacs. Twenty-seven entries saw heat race victories go to Gullion, Lucas, and Gray, while Bill Stanton, Jr. was credited with the B-main win.

In Sportsman action, Timmy Glazer would take the lead from the start and hold off a hard running Bobby Mattingly to score his first feature win of '05 in the TECH 1/The Shirt Shop sponsored #93 Chevy Monte Carlo. Mattingly would take second, with Danny Blackwell nipping Mike Bailey for third, with Pat Hagan coming in fifth. Dion West would go sixth, followed by Jimmy Bryan, Johnny Cecil, Barry Chesser, and Billy Benningfield completing the top ten. Twenty-two entries saw heat wins taken by Glazer and Bailey.
