UDTRA Awards Banquet Set For December 5th At Indianapolis

WOODSTOCK, GA - United Dirt Track Racing Association officials have announced that the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series 2002 Awards Banquet will be held on December 5 at the Radison Hotel City Centre 31 West Ohio Street in Indianapolis, IN. The doors will open with a reception at 7 p.m., with dinner served at 7:30 p.m., and the awards ceremonies are scheduled for 8 p.m.

Over $186,500 in cash and awards will be handed out during the banquet, with the lion's share going to Rick Eckert of York, PA, who will be honored for his second straight UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series Championship. Along with Eckert, Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, TN will be honored as the 2002 Lucas Oil Rookie of the Year.

Also honored will be the second through tenth place drivers in the 2002 UDTRA point standings which includes top five drivers Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA, Steve Francis of Ashland, KY, Jimmy Mars of Elk Mound, WI, and Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL.

The second five are Freddy Smith of Knoxville, TN, Randy Korte of Highland, IL, Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC, Ogle, and Shane Tankersley of Morganton, GA. Tankersley will also be honored as the Lucas Oil Rookie of the Year Runner-Up.

The Advance Auto Parts Hard Charger Award will be presented, as will the Muddslinger Magazine Most Laps Led Award. Rocket Chassis will be honored for their third straight UDTRA Chassis Manufacturers Championship, and Custom Race Engines will be awarded the JE Pistons Engine Builders Championship. The Ringers Gloves Chris Francis Memorial Crew Chief of the Year will also be named at the banquet.
