The 2004 season final race for late model is coming to an end this Sunday night, September 26th. It's the UMP Challenge of Champions that was originally scheduled on Monday, May 31st and was rained out and rescheduled for Sunday, July 25th. That date was rained out and the weatherman says for this Sunday, September 26th that we will hear the roar of engines at the MIGHTY MACON SPEEDWAY. It's going to be a great weekend for the late models.

Farmer City Raceway is doing a two day show for the Northern Allstar Series on Friday and Saturday. Therefore, there will be a lot of late models in town for a big three day weekend of racing. The very important part of this race on Sunday night for the Challenge of Champions Series is it's the last race and the deciding win for the Championship will come down to the first place Kevin Weaver and second place Dennis Erb and it will be at Macon Speedway.

Race fans, does the name Gary Webb ring a bell back in the mid 80's? Gary Webb has several feature wins at Macon Speedway and he will also be in the house doing battle and wanting to take the $2,000 first place prize money back to Davenport, IA. Other top contenders also expected this Sunday are Rodney Melvin and Randy Korte who won the Cheddar's Cafe Dash and led the first Sixty-five laps of the H&R 100 before exiting the race for mechanical failure. Also expect Eric Smith and the 2003 H&R winner Terry English, but track owner Webb said lets not forget about our local stars like first time Late Model Champion of the 2004 season Kerby Damery and a former champion of the H&R 100. Also three time track Champion Joe Ross, Jr. Also it's the final point night for all four divisions.

There is a close points race in the modified division between current points leader Jeff Leka with 913 points, second place Jim Leka with 905 points and third place Todd Kirkland with 890 points. Just 23 points seperate 1st through 3rd.

In the Sportsman division, Brian Diulio and Gregg Kimmons have traded the point lead back and fourth for the whole season and going into last Saturday night, Gregg Kimmons from Pleasant Plains held a six point lead over Macon's Brian Diulio, but when the night was over because of a blown engine from Gregg Kimmons while leading the feature, Brian Diulio came home with a fifth place finish and a point lead with 931 points. Gregg has 916 point, just 15 points back of the leader.

The Late Model Championship has already been decided and won by Kerby Damery. The Street Stock Championship has also been decided and won by Mike Pickering.

But fans there is still some more racing after Sunday, Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, Dwarf Cars and Mini-Sprints will be racing on October 2nd and 9th. Then the final race of the 2004 season will be the World Championship for Hornets on Saturday, October 16th. A big 50 lap feature with $1,000 going to the winner. Modifieds will also be racing for $1,000 to win and Street Stocks will pay $350 to win.
