UMP Crate Late Model Questions

Well the way i see it if you have a Rayburn car your good on rough and wet tracks and you don't have to change anything. With a MasterSbilt , Rocket , and a Forward they are good on all kinds of tracks. So yes the 4 bar cars need the Ohlins, and doesn't the rayburn cars have adjustable shocks on the cars. O and good luck cherry picking in 08 Groove Grabber, because its NOT going to be very easy 4 u now. LOL

Please define "what they need". Thats the problem, they have been brainwashed into thinking that they need 20 shocks or cannisters. Anyone who's knowlegable and doesnt have an agenda will tell you that with 5 to 7 shocks, you can be just as good 99% of the time. For those of you who think you need 20, buy 20, it's your money. For those of you that have sense, buy the 6 you will need 99% of the time and RACE!!! You dont need to change gas pressure, compression and rebound after every session.

Sean, you'd argue with a damn housecat!!!! lol

I quit, I'm not gonna try and win this debate. Some people cant drive so they need 30 shocks. That gives them a "had the wrong shock" excuse when they dont outrun anyone. If it takes 30, those 5 I own must be "magic shocks" lmao

Shane, we all know you can do more with less than most people can....you are a hell of a driver....... But I have to ask....If someone was going to give you a shock deal would you be interested???.....No need for a reply, I already know you would.

i couldnt begin to imagine 30 friggin shocks for one car.

we use like.. 6 or 7.. maybe 10 tops.

30? wowie.

money savings

Yeah, the funny thing is people that save all the money on shocks, try to have guy's like Stealth Carbs rebuild their motor's. That's real cost effective:confused::confused::confused:

Now that the Ohlins are gone now, we now are going 2 have 2 have 40 shocks in the trailer, but i do love the new tire rule (40's). Yes fastrak i get your shock joke.
If your dumb enough to have 40 shocks in the trailer to win 500 bucks there is nothing anyone can do to help you! LMAO

Couldn't the same thing be said about having a $30,000 engine and racing for $1,000 to win in late models or a $20,000 engine in a Mod & racing for $600 to win?? Not to mention all the shocks that they have to go along with it.

I don't know sean, brian won 36 modified features in the last 2 years with a 9k stock block 383 and 6 (non ajustable)shocks in the trailer. The problem is racers have been brainwashed into thinking they need it. And yes pesonally I think spending 30k to win 1k is dumb. However most of the guys spending that much on a motor don't do it to win the weekly races, it's to be competive at the bigger paying shows.

Thats not me, I got the most bottom dollar rebuild from Faust because the gentleman that payed for it wanted Bill to do it.

I'm not talking about shock deals, I'm talkin about blue collar racers who are mislead into believing they need cannister's or 40 shocks. Yea, I'd love a shock deal. If anyones interested In buying me some I use KONI's that are rebound adjustable and they cost $115.99 each NEW. lol I think the best deals going are KONI's on swingarm and 4-Bar(Chuck Still sure knows how to use them) and John's non- cannister package from Premier Racing Suspension.

In response to the cherry -pickin comment, this class isnt for cherry pickers believe me!! I've found on many occasions that guys with a whole lot less experience than myself can outrun anyone on any given night. the same guys who can outrun me with so little experience in crates, I could probably lap them in a modified but thats what this crate racing does, it levels up the field. If anything, this class is somewhat a disadvantage to experienced drivers and an advantage to rookies.

I watched late model rookies outrun Rodney Melvin, Nick Lyons, Jeff Walston, Mark Oller and all the other experienced guys in crates this year. Whats the chances they could do that in a super? Or how about a rookie outrunning Harrison, and Mevert, and Bittle, and Bielong in mods? It just dont and wont work that way buddy, sorry

Now my post was just hypothetical. And the reason I choose to mention Stealth was I believe he was the engine builder for Gentry. I am sure nobody would actually try to do that.;);)

shocks

Would not have bothered me... We ran an auto in anyway...

Shocks, either you own 5 cans, or 20 twin tubes, it's all the same.

So what you are saying is that an Ohlins valved at lets say a 4 is the same as a Afco twin tube valved at a 4. Now that is funny, I dont care who you are these are not even close and you all know it so give it up!!!!!!!!!!!

i have a question for someone to answer. ump starts a crate late model class or they buy one? so why the sudden need for a shock rule. someone with some influence whine to the right people to get it or what seems funny to me that was the first thing they said after they said they were starting the class. just wandering.

hey sean2 since you are the expert on racing why dont you enlighten all us mod and super lm guys on how we should race and run our deals

In the cars series they had cry babies like Groove Grabber and many more 2 write down. Those people couldn't hang with the people that have the cannister shocks on their cars. Yes groove grabber you did cherry pick last year, the only way you could get in the top 10 in point was to go race against 5 cars a night. You couldn't HANDLE the pressure of 18 good cars a tri city.

It was me:D The one who had all the rules changed!!!:D

We love running Fredericktown!!! It is a great little racey track!! Everyone should try it out this season, the best track prep around and I'm serious about that. As an outsider, we were treated like a local and I appreciate the friends I have made from that area. We supported them weekly because they are great people and we want them to do well. If your tryin to shame me somehow, sorry

None of your boys(whoever they are) gave us much problem at Mt. Vernon, its my opinoin they went somewhere else looking for easier company. Guess it all depends where you sit, huh:p;)

FREDERICKTOWN 08: A track where fans and racers are still friendly, not a**holes like you LMAO:D

No changes to the claim amount on shocks. Here are the updated shock claim rules. These are now on UMP's website.

1.27 Shocks
a) Canister shock are not allowed
b) U.M.P. Dirt car will impose a $200.00 shock claim and exchange . Promoter, Driver or UMP DIRTcar has the right to claim shock. If you turn down claim, you will lose all monies and points for that event.
c) You must be a registered UMP DIRTcar member to claim shocks.
d) You have to be in the top 5 finishing positions to claims shocks.

My Business partner(he knows who he is because he reads stlracing) keeps draggin his feet.!! lol Although I will say plans are to take a look at 1 this week. I'll still be running the crate car no matter what also as I'm not gonna let it sit.

Maybe I fight a losing battle but I just dont like to see the little guys get run over by money in a class that was designed for them. Hammer me for it if you want, I've got big shoulders.
