UMP mandating Crates in B-Mods in 2015 QUESTION

ALCOHOL

#1 Rule Bender
Rumors are that the GM602 will be mandated in 2015. So I guess if you are a Ford or Dodge man,,,you are done with the B-Mod class. Isn't this discriminating against the latter 2 Makers? As we speak,,UMP keeps getting worse all the time if it is true. I think it is time for a change!

I don't know if they are mandating crates in 2015 for BMods, but it is hardly discriminating since they only allow GM crates in the crate late model class.

Ford & Dodge need to come up with a $3,000 - 350hp all steel block crate engine I guess..

IMCA's rule package for the GM 604 crate engine is allowing it to pretty well dominate their IMCA A-Mod division now. Teams are having to switch to crates to be competitive...

its really gonna shut down the class. We considered going to a B mod for dollar reasons but this would tear it. Again its cheaper to build a engine to match the rules that buy one from GM . and a Real tech person requires tools to tech and pay to do it. I still havenet seen one with a cc gauge..

well if thats the case old fir ball will not be running a b mod..for example,,the motor in the 54 car at highland was nothing more than a allied flat top sportsman engine, the motor in my 27 b mod cost less than 1200 bux,,the motor in my 17 a mod was built to be b mod legal, needed it for my a mod, steel heads and all i have way less than the cost of a crate,,,all ump is doing is raising the cost of racing for the low bux guys JMO

sams mandate as it is says ump limited modified class will be crates only in 2015. Now how many really care about ump points maybe 4or 5 guys at each track. cant see tracks letting a class like the sport mod or b mod going by the wayside when each track that is running them saw a significant increase in car count wouldnt hurt my feelings in the least to run unsactioned.

as far as a compression test lets be honest here they made a rule they cant inforce allied is only track with equipment to test for this thats why should of been a flat top piston motor jmo

Well this effin blows if it is true, I bought a new car about a month ago for the sole purpose of running in the b-mod class because I already have 2 motors that I have less than what it would cost me to buy a crate motor. In my case if I am forced to buy a crate motor I will just have to sell my car. so much for wanting to get back into racing.

Everyone acts like you have to buy a brand new one...there's plenty of good used ones out there for sale!! IMO it's a huge positive. They're bulletproof, level out the playing field, and are CHEAP! $3300 for a brand new one intake to pan with balancer, and distributor!...last year we had about 1500 in ours after we bought it used, had it gone thru and resealed with the UMP seals. We won races and were in contention for wins every week our first year in the b-mod class. Look at the positives guys. It can save u a lot of money in the long run. Again jmo.

i think if ump is going to mandate an engine rule they need to mandate a whole set of rules from chassis to drivetrain, weight, and then mandate engine rules. with the way it is right now u have to build your car to one set of rules and if your lucky you might be legal at 2 of our local tracks who run the class

well billy knebel had i think 3 wins in crate dont know how many 2nds and i think rest were open motors we raced 15 nights i think also so by my score 12 open 3 crate wins but if u look at top 10 when we had 6 crates was usually 5 crates 5 open motors in top 10. imo if you want to travel the crate is way to go look at usra b mod rules pretty well the same as our crate rules or any other sport mod track

Have a couple of questions for you. When you bought your used engine, who went through it and deemed it legal and who and how was it sealed?

The difference being here Jimmy is ....When the crate class started,,,,crate motors were mandated,,,,not like the b=mod class where they have raced for a couple years and now they want to throw these rules at them.

i have 5 race cars running,,3 b mods a a=mod and a late model,,one b mod is a front runner,a second mid pack and the last one needs some ironing out,,my a mod is mid pack at best (its faster than I am)the late model with a good driver is mid pack,,5 grand at the most in all the motors

Bill Faust did it. There are only certain builders that can go through them and reseal them with the GM bolts, UMP seals, and such. 100% legal as long as u go thru one of UMP's authorized people. Bill is one around here that is authorized.
