Evansville, IN (May 3, 2005) The United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) is bringing safety to the forefront in 2005. UMP Officials will be checking cars more closely for safety rules violations.

UMP Officials made a visit to I-55 Raceway in Pevely, MO on Saturday, April 30th and were using a new instrument to measure the thickness of the tubing in the roll cage. UMP rules state the roll cages must be made of tubing with at least .095" thickness. Their new measuring equipment is accurate up to .001" of an inch. UMP Officials were pleased that all cars the checked at I-55 Raceway were within the rules. UMP will be doing random checks at various UMP sanctioned tracks in 2005.

UMP will also be measuring the thickness of the new tubular lower A-Frames. UMP will be ensuring that manufacturers are following their guidelines will building these new tubular lower A-Frames.

UMP will also be checking other safety equipment including seat belts, drive shaft loops, lead weight mounting procedures and other safety related items.

Any raceteams that have a question regarding any safety rules, should contact UMP at 812-426-1200.
