UMP Sportsman point leader?

biker6403

dirt tracks 4 ever
Where is he from and will he be coming to I-55 to face "The Ripper" on Sat.?

He races at Brownstown Speedway, Bloomington Speedway and Lincoln Park Speedway in Indiana. Not sure if his car would meet the same rules as I-55... Also Brownstown is racing this Saturday as well...

Typical UMP BS........ letting tracks prevail to their own rules, listed under a UMP organization classes with UMP rules.. Funny how UMP wants everyone to join for their $$, but then doesn't care about tracks not following there rules for that class... UMP only has 2 classes that the rules are the same for every track, and that is the Latemodels and the Modifieds, all of the other classes is whatever the track wants or decides.

Maybe that is a reason that they only have Latemodels and Modifieds for the UMP Fall National races, cause the other classes they would not have any idea on how to inspect for them.

Just like this points leader in the sportsman class, he can run at his local tracks, but then cant run in the Stlouis area, even though they are listed as same class.

Do you really think the guys in the st. Louis area would be willing to change their cars? Because if they were forced on one set of rules, it would probably be the rules in Indiana..

Either way best of luck to Racers For Rescues driver Jon Ripperda in his title efforts this weekend. He and his crew have been more than generous with payout and dog food donations this season. ...Bring it home man!

Why were two sets of rules established in the first place?

Do you mean they would not adapt the rules that the majority of its national titles were won by the last 10 years?

Most tracks in the Midwest had their own sportsman rules. A few years ago, UMP sanctioned them and let the tracks keep their own rules. There are far more than 2 sets of rules. Tracks in central Illinois are far different than around here or Indiana... Plus the guys in the Northeast are very different too.

UMP Factory Stocks (which are run at all tracks in this area), UMP Limited Modifieds, UMP Sport Compacts also all go by track rules...

UMP Late Models, UMP Modifieds, UMP Pro Late Models and UMP Stock Cars are the only divisions with a set of rules directly from UMP.

The UMP Factory Stocks were created because so many tracks didn't want to go with the UMP Stock Car rules (which are way more open that the Street Stocks around here). Fayette Co. runs the UMP Stock Car rules and another class of UMP Factory Stocks as well.

I think track rules are ok if thats what they want to do but if it comes down to championship like this and the guys lets say in top ten have no were to run they should prove they are ump members and show track
Crew for troy clarkrules and be allowed to run any ump track .just like this jon can come to indiana but (troy clark) ump points leader now cant go there and has no where to run on friday nights now and hasnt for a couple weeks this maybe costing him a championship believe me if we were allowed to be at belle clair tonight we would be

I would love to see Troy and Jon battle it out and even contacted Troy personally to see it he would be able to come over this weekend. But to say he could loose the championship because he needs more races is crazy. Not sure on how many nights Troy has this season, but I believe its a lot more than most of the top guys..

Our sportsman rules around STL are much closer to ump stock car rules. Basically the only difference is the stock body compare to our sheet metal/late model bodies. Maybe UMP needs to look at combining our sportsman into the stock car rules and vice versa with allied. The Indiana sportsman is a completely different car that really only has the same body rules as here in stl.

i tried finding a legal car to go to bell claire tonight but didnt have enough time.we have ran lots of races we do every year.we love to race and if were legal were usually there.i wish ump would step up and give us one set of rules. i dont care whos rules they use as long as there all the same.as far as points it all comes down to this weekend.we will give it everything we have just as im sure jon will.either way first or second weve had a good year and will see everyone at the banquet.

Thanks,Troy for joining us....We hope you can come race with us next year. Good Luck to Jon and Troy..:)

I am new to the whole UMP thing. I am used to USRA IMCA type rules for street stocks and hobby stocks. But UMP allows tracks to run different rules for the same class to get National points? That seems to me the dumbest thing I have heard. Someone help me understand this better, the difference between the UMP sportsman, stock and factory stocks cars. Why wouldnt they want to get 1 set of rules for each class so that a guy could take his car anywhere and race. IMCA and USRA cars can go anywhere and race and not have to change anything. To me it would make more since for all the track to want this, if a track gets rained out or is off a night then guys can go elsewhere and race. I guess I just dont understand! lol

UMP only sanctioned Late Models and Modifieds for years and have a specific set of rules for those two divisions. When they added the other divisions, most tracks already were running their own specific rules which varied greatly from track to track. They have tried to merge the rules into one set for each division, but everytime they attempt any change, the track's whos cars would have to make changes threatens to drop all their sanctions and many of the drivers throw tirades about it.

I highly doubt anyone has done as much research on sportsman rules as I have. If you want to fix it and I mean really fix it to the point you could have a big race at the end of the year that could pull 100 to 200 cars... make the rules similar to WISSOTA super stocks.

They just need to do it. I am pretty sure tracks wont drop UMP all together. Late Models and Mods and go just about anywhere they want to run but the local 8-5 worker who wants to race because he loves the sport can only go to 1 track. Make the changes in phases don't just change it all together at once.

First off great posts Troy and well said. Not too many times in this day in age do we see people show great sportsmanship as well as down right respect. Second with the rules this all started years ago when ump decided to sanction. The class but dropped the ball big time by not coming up with a set of nationally recognized rules. It's sad. Great class and some of the best drivers in the states. Run this class. I agree with extreme....run wissota rules! Make the class so much affordable and really easy to make current cars legal. Easy peezy.
