We are currently checking records from all over the world but feel confident that the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO will officially take the title of "World's Fastest Dirt Track."
"We are not certain what the current record was," said Kevin Greven, General Track Manager. "But we believe 313.95 MPH has a real shot at breaking it."
Okay, before you have heart failure, we are talking about the Morgan Lucas, Lucas Oil Speedway Top Fuel Dragster. This weekend during the O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway International Raceway, Morgan's top fuel rocket flew the Lucas Oil Speedway colors. It's a scheme that will be repeated during the O'Reilly NHRA Summer Nationals later this month at Heartland Park in Topeka, KS.
This Sunday, for the second straight event Morgan faced Tony Schumacher in the ARMY Top Fuel Dragster in the first round. Schumacher is one of, if not the, toughest competitors in the Top Fuel ranks. Morgan did his job, beating the ARMY car off the line, but for the second straight outing came up just short at the stripe.
As for the Lucas Oil Speedway, Morgan took dirt track racing where it has never been before. His awesome Top Fuel Dragster this weekend served to help cross promote both the Diamond of Dirt Tracks and the SuperClean Diamond Nationals to a different kind of race fan.
"We are really excited to here," added Greven, "the fan response has been great all weekend, I think we may have converted a few. I know we will if they make it down to the 2nd Annual SuperClean Diamond Nationals."
