CANEY, Kan. (May 11) – The USMTS Casey's General Stores National Tour drivers last competed one month ago today at the 24 Raceway in Moberly, Mo. Hopefully, they're well-rested because they won't get another chance to catch their breath for almost another month.

When the high-powered, mud-slinging Modifieds of the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour make their maiden voyage to the Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan., this Thursday, it will be the first of 14 events in 17 days for the tireless throttle-heavy touring titans.

Nearly $200,000 in prize money will be doled out during the May swing that will end with a well-deserved Memorial Day break on Monday, May 31.
Thursday's blockbuster event at Caney will be the sixth race in the rough-and-tumble Bear Tire Mo-Kan Region where Jon Tesch of Watertown, S.D., and current points leader Jason Hughes of Westville, Okla., both have two wins under their belt this season while Steve Holzkamper of Gentry, Ark., also has a victory.

Hughes is on a roll right now, having won five of the seven races staged in the USMTS Southern Series West Region for a total of six victories under the USMTS banner so far in 2009.

Two-time defending Bear Tire Mo-Kan Region champ and eight-time USMTS National Champion Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa, will also be on hand to try and become the first USMTS winner at the Caney oval and, more importantly, put an end to the current 28-race winless drought hanging over his head.
Other names that race fans can expect to see include Rodney Sanders, Johnny Bone Jr., Dustin Boney, Zack VanderBeek, Chad Wheeler, Scott Green, Bryan Rowland, Dereck Ramirez, Tommy Myer, Tate Cole, Tim Shields, Don Crnkovich, Kip Hughes, Terry Phillips, Jason Krohn, Jeremy Payne, Steven Martin, Brian Bolin, Brian McGowen, Dan Daniels, Pat McVicker, Ron Gould Jr., Jake Richards, Tim Setzer, Matt Waugh, Brian Wolfe, Austin Siebert, Brian Green, Justin Boney, Tony Jackson Jr., Richard Payne and Curt Potter.
Drivers expected to defend their home turf include 2008 Caney Valley Speedway track champion Colby Artherton and 2008 American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series national runner-up Justin "Whitey" Folk. Fellow area hotshoes expected are John Allen, Jerry Reeves, Rodney Sigg, Gary Langworthy Jr., Chris Deaton, Joe Gorby, Stevie Wright, Jessie Fox, Dena Wilson, Bill McMurtrie, Chance Bishop, Jeremy Chambers, Ryan Whitworth, Brandon Morton and others.

Under the direction of promoter Kerry Gorby, the Caney Valley Speedway reopened last August for the first time since 2004. Gorby and his staff have given the facility a complete top-to-bottom facelift, including new restrooms, concessions and pit buildings, plus the addition of an air-conditioned press tower, a new and improved p.a. system and thousands of gallons of fresh paint.

The main event will pay $2,000 to win and a minimum $250 to start. The racing card will also include local B-Mod and Factory Stock classes racing for track points.

Fans can pick up $2-off discount coupons at the Casey's General Store location in Caney on race day.

Pit gates will open at 4:00, grandstands open at 5:00, hot laps are at 6:30 and racing starts at 7:00. The Caney Valley Speedway is a 1/4-mile semi-banked clay oval located 0.8 mile west of the junction of US 75 and US 166 on CR 1600. For more information call 620-330-0485 or visit www.caneyvalleyspeedway.net.

Drivers will have some added incentive to find victory lane and fans will have a chance to see NASCAR driver and television personality Kenny Wallace, who will strap on his helmet and stand on the gas as he competes with the USMTS Modifieds on the Caney dirt.

Wallace will also be competing at three other events next week, including stops at the Midway Speedway in Lebanon, Mo., on May 15; Monett (Mo.) Speedway on May 17; Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on May 19; and the Marshalltown (Iowa) Speedway on May 20.

At the Oskaloosa and Marshalltown events, Wallace will also be joined by fellow NASCAR legend and semi-regular USMTS racer Ken Schrader. Schrader has also penciled-in the Cresco (Iowa) Speedway for May 21 on his calendar.
