GODFREY, Ill. (April 10, 2003) - The United States Modified Touring Series will return to the Godfrey Speedway in Godfrey, IL April 16th for the first visit in three years to the speedway. Last time the USMTS visited the speedway local favorite Jason Connoyer topped the field of forty-eight cars.

This race will see many new faces as the USMTS will be in Illinois for a four-day swing that will begin at the Godfrey Speedway before moving to Macon Speedway in Macon, IL for the George Handley Memorial that will feature Winston Cup Driver Ken Schrader on hand driving his Dirt Works Modified.

The series will conclude at the Spoon River Speedway in Canton on Friday and Saturday. Each race will pay $2000 to win with the series final at Spoon paying $2500 to the winner. The two races at Godfrey and Macon will be south region races with the race at Spoon River being the first north region race of the 2003 race season. After the first two races Jason Hughes holds a narrow margin in the south region points over Justin Boney and Tommy Myer.

The race at Godfrey will get underway with hot laps at 7pm and racing to follow. Also running will be the mini-sprints. Some of America’s top modified drivers will be on hand for this race including: Mark Noble, Kelly Shryock, Tommy Myer, Mike Chasteen, Jason Hughes, Justin Boney, Corey Dripps, Gary Clark, Scott Drake, Dan Daniels plus all the local favorites.
