Lebanon,Mo.-The O'ReillyAutoparts MLRA SuperLateModels made a return visit to the LebanonMidwaySpeedway Sat Night and when the dust settled Alan Vaughn found his way into victory lane in an action packed 40 lap feature.
After 3 fast and furious qualifying heats, the front row consisted of Jason Bodenhamer and Chris Smyser. As the green flew,Bodee shot on the bottom as Smyser hooked to the top cushion as the duo were side by side. The caution flew as pre-race favorite David Turner lost fuel pressure and stalled.
As the pack restarted,Smyser again shot to the top and would lead the opening lap with Bodee,Alan Vaughn, and Al Purkey running side by side.On lap 8,Vaughn grabbed the runner-up spot and set his sights on leader Smyser as the "Hurrian Missourian" was setting a quick pace.On lap 12,the leaders began to hit lapped traffic as Purkey,Bodee,Leslie Essary,Bryan Allison, and Shane Essary were battling behind. On lap 14,Smyser moved to the bottom as he and Vaughn encountered the traffic.Smyser then went to the top and contact between he and Vaughn on the frontstretch as Smyser's night ended with the car encountering the wall.On the doulbeup restart,Vaughn and Bodenhamer brought the field down again with Al Purkey looking in the shadows.Vaughn pulled away after a brief battle with Bodenhamer to record the win with Purkey,Bodenhamer,Allison, and Shane Essary completing the top 5.
"This is a racy place and nice facility here at the Midway" Vaughn told the crowd in the winner's circle."We learned that there is a top groove here last June and we set the car-up to run the long run upstairs. Our season hasn't been the best, but maybe tis will get us back on track. The track was in nice shape and we really enjoy coming down here to race."
In Modified action,Eric Hudson drew the pole along with James Hartman. On the start,Hudson powered to the front as Tony Jackson Jr stayed close to his bumper.Point leader Jamie Ragland then began his charge from 4th and went to the top. This trio battled for position until lap 8,when something on Ragland's car broke taking him out of action. On the restart,Hudson and Jackson resumed there battle, but a new player was coming fast as Archie,Missouri driver Matt Johnson and Tim Brown were coming to the front quickly.Up front,Hudson and Jackson ran bumper to bumper as Johnson was making up ground quickly. As the white flag flew,Jackson went up stairs going into turn 1 and shot to the lead down the backstretch as Hudson went back downstairs in turn 3.Heading for the checkered flag,Hudson pulled alongside of Jackson and nipped him at the stripe in claiming the 600 to win prize money.Jackson Jr,Matt Johnson,Tim Brown and Micheal Jones completed the top5 as an extra $100 to lottery spots(each driver recieving and extra 50)was awarded from WC Grays Farms in Dixon,Missouir with Todd McCoin and Jimmy Willis gathering that honor.
The FactoryStock feature kept the crowd on there feet as Tim Petty jumped to the early lead with a tight battle for second including Todd Cook, point leader Randy Berry,Glen Dismang and Travis Hill.Heat race winners Tim Brown and Bobby Ratterree were back in 7th and 8th place.Petty pulled away as much as 6 cars as Cook moved around Berry on lap 6 and set his sights on the leader. The caution waved for Dismang on lap 8 as the field bunched up with Petty,Cook,Tim Brown,Berry, and Friday Night's winner Robbie Bryant in tow.On lap 9,Cook moved around Petty as Brown followed as leader Petty fell back to 3rd.On lap 11,the yellow waved as Bobby Ratterree,Sam Petty, and Dismang collected up in turn 2.Leader Cook developed overheating problems as Berry pulled into the pits with motor problems.Tim Brown found himself out in front with Robbie Bryant now in second as Justin Stoufer had charged from 11th up to challange. On the restart,Bryant pulled to Brown's back quater, but the "HotRod Camaro"shot to the front again and never looked back in grabbing the win followed by Bryant,Stoufer,Travis Hill, and early leader Petty.
Bill Roberts grabbed the lead early and never looked back in recording the Bomber feature with Aaron York,Dale Rodden,Mike Piercey and Missy Shaw completing the top 5.
Up next on Friday Night Aug.26th at the Midway-Double points night for all 6 classes including the Modifieds,Superstocks,Winged Sprints,FactoryStocks,Bombers and Mini-stocks with action starting at 8PM.
