Vaught Captures 1st I-44 Win/Prewitt Keeps Streak Alive

Lebanon,mo.-Second generation driver Will Vaught overtook veteran Darrell Mooneyham on the 12 lap and cruised to victory Sat. night in capturing his first career victory in the LateModel feature Sat night and the Lebanon I-44 Speedway.

Darrell Mooneyham brought the field down for the green with Danny Atkinson beside him.Mooneyham quickly shot to the early lead and pulled away as much as 14 car lengths as Vaught had settled in on second place.The red flag displayed quickly on lap 2 as Dale Moon rode the frontstretch wall with a mangled frontend.On the restart,Mooneyham again pulled away with Vaught a solid second as Atkinson had moved into third.All eyes were on 5 time track champion Ken Essary as he was moved through the pack from his 10th starting spot.The race wolud take a solid green flag run as Vaught began his charge on the leader Mooneyhasm around lap 8 and closed up ground.After a good side-by-side battle,Vaught made the winning move on lap 12 and never looked back in capturing his first ever I-44 feature win.Following Vaught to the line was Mooneyham, Ken Essary, Atkinson and Brian Schutt in the top 5.

The Modified feature saw Jeff Cutshaw jump from his front row starting spot and take the early lead as Terry Beckham II followed in tow along with defending champion Erik Maggard.The yellow would fly on lap 7 as Dusty Johnston's car came to a halt in turn 4.On the restart,Cutshaw held on to the low groove as Beckham was putting it on the high-side trying to grab the top spot.Back in the pack two drivers making alot of forward ground were 18th starting Shane Essary and Gary Clark as they were moving into the top 10.Two laps later,clark fell out with problems as Rex Merrittt moved up to battle Maggard for third while Cutshaw and Beckham were battling side by side.On lap 14,Beckham pulled around Cutshaw only to have Cutshaw take the spot back as Shane Essary had moved into the top 5 and was coming fast.On lap 18,Cutshaw and Beckham were again side-by-side battling for the lead and gonig through lapped traffic were Cutshaw got tangled up in turn 4 giving Beckham the top spot for sure.On the restart,Maggard made a last lap lunge,but Beckham was to strong as he recorded his first ever I-44 Feature win followed closely by Maggard,Rex Merritt,Shane Essary and Terry Kerbough at the finish.

The SuperStock feature had Matt Pilant jump to the early lead with Jason Otto in tow as defending champion Mike Joplin scrapped the frontstretch wall on lap 1 taking him out of contention.With Otto moving away from the field, point leader and undefeated Larry Prewitt started his charge to the front around lap 6.After several battles in the pack with Steve Sanders,Josh Woody and Tim Petty,Prewitt moved into second place on lap 9 and moved in on a fast moving Otto.With Otto setting a quick pace and using the low groove tonight,Prewitt ran him down and made the winning move as the white flag was being displayed coming out of turn 4.Prewitt and Otto battled,but in the end,Prewitt recorded his 12 win of the season followed by Otto,Josh Woody,Tim Petty,and Shawn Danuser at the finish.

The FactoryStock feature had Sean Williams jump to the early lead and pulling away from the field as Jordan Holloway,Kevin Brown and point leader Micheal Maggard were battling back and forth for posistion.On lap 8,leader Williams car came to a halt going into turn 3 as the second pack quickly came upon the leader as Robbie Bryant was now coming through the pack.As the yellow waved for Williams car,Micheal Maggard quickly jumped to the low groove and took over the lead.On the restart,Holloway tried several passes,but young Maggard held on to record the win followed by Holloway,last weeks winner Kevin Brown,Robbie Bryant,and Matt Miller.

The SprintCar feature stopped as fast as it started as John Rowland had grabbed the early lead with Randy Roberts following,but point leader Joe Todd and Terry Moore had got together on the frontstretch ending both of there nights.On the restart,Rowland agin grabbed the early lead with Roberts again in second,but Rowland experienced problems on lap 3 giving Roberts the lead as JP Compton now began his charge to the front.n lap 11,Compton had cut the lead down to 5 cars and looked as if he might pull off a late pass,but Roberts moved into the low groove and started pulling away again and held on to gather the win.Following Roberts to the line was Compton,Eric Todd,Clint Todd,and Chad Vaught at the stripe.

The Bombers put on another wild feature as Lonnie Henderson jumped into the early lead with David Hendrix in second.On lap 2 Jack Hamer had jumped the cushion in turn 2 and then point leader KC Prettyman took a wild tumble as his car flipped 3 times hard going into turn 3 bringing out the red flag.On the restart,Henderson was holding on strong as Hendrix was trying the inside groove and last weeks winner Dusty Rhoades had moved into third.On lap 5,Rhoades moved around Hendrix and then charged around leader Henderson.2 laps later Henderson pulled in with problems as Rhoades and Hendrix continued this sidebyside battle up front.Behind them Brandon Knutdson and Derrick Peterson were battling for third place along with Justin Foust.As the white flag displayed,Hendrix made a final lunge at Rhoades,but Dusty held on to record the win followed by Hendrix,Knutdson ,Peterson,and Foust.
