(Waycross, GA - January 17, 2003) Waycross Motor Speedway will thunder to life on the first Saturday night of February as the historic race track plays host to the 2003 Lucas Oil Triple Crown Championship Series which opens SpeedWeeks stock car racing action in 2003. After an opening visit to Savannah, GA's Oglethorpe Speedway Park on Friday (Jan 31st) the nation's most talented short-track aces roll into the Land of the Trembling Earth at Waycross Motor Speedway on Saturday, February 1st.


Waycross Plays Host to Major Stock Car Event with Marquis Names Including Scott Bloomquist, Freddy Smith, Billy Moyer and a host of America's Fastest Guns

Freddy Smith, Scott Bloomquist and former 5-time 'World 100' champion Billy Moyer (Batesville, AR) will lead an all-star field of drivers in attendance, including Skip Arp (Georgetown, TN), Ronnie Johnson (Chattanooga, TN), Earl Pearson Jr. (Jacksonville, FL), Mike Carter (Blackshear, GA), plus a field of the nation's top-rated hot shoes from the ranks of short track racing including. Other drivers who will be on hand to contend for the lucrative payoff in the 40-lap Waycross Motor Speedway tangle will be legendary racer Mike Duvall (Cowpens, SC); former "Show-Me 100" winner Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC; former STARS champions Mike Balzano and veteran Steve Shaver each of Parkersburg, WV; former Hav-A-Tampa Rookie of the Year Dan Schlieper (Milwaukee, WI); National Late Model Sportsman champs Ivedent Lloyd (Ocala, FL) and Skip Pannell (Albany, GA); former Southeastern Dirt Late Model Champion Chris Madden (Gray Court, SC) and Illinois standout Randy Korte (Highland, IL). Madden, a multi-time Southern All-Stars winner is rapidly gaining popularity throughout the short track world and a former winner at Waycross Motor Speedway will pilot the 'house-car' for noted chassis manufacturer Barry Wright Race Cars who has been a dominant force on the South Georgia oval over the years. A long list of other notable nationally ranked racers have made their intentions to race in the event known, among them are former Million Dollar event winner and 3-time STARS Champion Donnie Moran (Dresden, OH); former UDTRA & Southern All-Stars Champion Dale McDowell (Chickamauga, GA); former Hav-A-Tampa Shootout Champion Wendell Wallace (Batesville, AR) and many more of America's most exciting short-trackers.

In addition to the field of Super Late Model drivers attempting to make the 24-car starting grid, the UMP Open Wheel Modifieds will also be in racing competition at Waycross Motor Speedway on February 1st for a $1, 0000 to win feature event. A full racing program is also on tap as the Super Street, Super Stock and Pure Stock divisions who will be in action at the famed half-mile oval.

Pit gate opens at 12:00 Noon on Saturday (Feb 1st) with grandstands opening at 3:30 p.m. Time-trial qualifying starting at 6:00 p.m. The racing action starts at 7:00 p.m. with Grandstand General Admission tickets for $20.00 (Kids 7-12 years old are $5.00 with and Kids 6 and under admitted FREE in the Grandstand area.
