Lebanon,Mo.-Former 2 time UMP National Champion and Nascar Champion Gary Webb of Blue Grass,Iowa rolled into the Lebanon I-44 Speedway Sat.Night looking to put the Ozarks Fasttrack on his notch of 60 tracks that he has won at.Make that now 61 as the veteran found the high grrove after a restart on lap 18 to capture the 1000 to win Late Model Feature Sat.Night.
On the start of the Feature,Lebanon driver Jared Harris brought the field down for the green as current points runner-up Dave Ware following in tow and took control on lap 2 with point leader Brad Looney right on his bumper. With Ware and his Western Sizzilin 55 setting a fast pace on the bottom of the track,Gary Webb began his charge from the 4th starting spot and followed Looney on the low side. With Ware still setting a quick pace, the top three Ware,Looney, and Webb were all sticking to the bottom of the Speedway as Downtown Tim Brown was coming quickly on the highside battling Darrell Mooneyham and LeRoy Johnson for the 4th place honors. On lap 12,Webb put his 56 on the top groove and was looking for some bite off the 18 degrees of banking while Ware was in a hot battle with Looney. On the 18th lap, veteran Darrell Mooneyham lost the rearend of his racer, and the yellow was displayed for debris with Ware still in control followed by Looney,Webb,Brown and LeRoy Johnson. On the restart,Webb shot to the top of the track and found the bite he was needing as Looney shot to the inside of leader Ware. For the next 3 laps,Ware had Webb along side him on the top, with Looney looking for running room on the inside of Ware.On lap 22,Webb 3 wheeled his GRT/Dickens #56 to the top spot as Looney made the inside move on Ware for second as Tim Brown and the Hunter Oil #1 was coming fast in 4th.For the next 2 laps,Looney shot to the inside as the duo ran side by side with Webb pulling on the straights. As the white was displayed,Looney made another low groove move to the inside of Webb as Gary rode the top cushion to power to the victory followed closely by Looney, early leader Ware,Brown and opening lap leader Jared Harris.
"The last time I ran down here was in 1988,"quoted winner Webb." This is a great facility and plenty of racing room on the track. We arrived here after racing at Bolivar Friday night and stayed overnight, worked on the car and never even took hotlaps this evening, and it wasn't easy taking this win.It marks the 61st different track I have won a Late Model feature on,and these guys put on a great race,it was clean racing plenty of give and take, and I hope the fans enjoyed the race, because it is all about the fans in the stands.Without them we don't get the chance to do this.We will definitely be back here as the payoffs are hard to top for a weekly show."
The Modified feature was a clean, green, hard race to the end as Camdenton's James Hartman jumped from his front row starting spot to grab the early lead with Jim Weber in close pursuit.Jamie Ragland came charging into the race from his 4th starting spot and put on heavy pressure to Hartman as point leader Erik Maggard and Racin Jason Meadors were battling for third place honors. On lap 5,Ragland found the high groove to his liking and shot the 15 machine to the lead with Hartman still in second. On lap 9,Meadors disposed of Maggard and set his sights on Hartman running him down on lap 12.With Ragland hitting his marks perfect on the high grrove,Meadors pulled along side on lap 13 to the inside. As the duo were side by side on the white flag lap,Ragland kept his nose pointed straight and pulled to claim his 1st feature win of the season with Meadors a very close second and Hartman making his best showing of the season in third followed by Maggard, and early contender Jim Weber.
"This is just an old stock 350 motor out of a Chevy Truck we put in this week after blowing up your good motor at Bolivar last week,"said Ragland."We just finished everything up this afternoon as we missed racing last Sat night and last night at Bolivar. We came to watch last Sat night, and I knew we had to get things ready.Nothing beats winning on your hometrack before the crowd.I normally run the bottom, but 2 weeks ago I found the high side to my liking and the car just seems to work good there!"
The SuperStock feature was a wild affair as Shawn Danuser took the opening lead with Larry Prewitt in close tow.A lap 2 caution involving point contender Rick Brown closed the pack up with Danuser still setting the pace with Prewett on his bumper and point leader Mike Joplin running third. On lap 6,Prewitt shot by Danuser and Joplin followed in tow as Rick Brown and Ben Newell were cjarging hard from the rear.A late race Yellow for Ed Wilson in turn 4 saw Prewitt,Joplin,Mark Simon, and new contender Paul Moore battling for positions. On the white flag lap,Joplin shot to the inside, but Prewett held on to claim the win followed closely by Joplin,Moore,Brown, and Newell.
The FactoryStock feature saw Steve Schultz jump to the early lead with Quintin Day following close behind along with Steve Melton. On lap 5,Day shot to the inside to take control along with Melton making the move and Darrin Crisler. On lap 8,Dennis Jones brought out the yellow closing up the gap between Day and Melton. On the restart,Melton shot to the inside of leader Day as the duo made contact taking Day out of contention, and sending Melton to the pits with a flat tire as Burl Woods came roaring from 6th place up to the top spot and held on to record the win followed closely by Schultz,Ward Fredrick Jr,Rick Davis, and Crisler.
The Bombers really had everyone looking for a full moon as 21 took the opening green, but it quickly went to red as James Decker lost an axle and Donnie Jackson rolled his car in turn 2.On the restart,Derrick Peterson had problems along with Luke Stephens and the race restarted again. On the restart,Corey Simpson took the opening lead as Jason Huey made the move on the insde to take over. The yellow would wave as several cars including Chad Comer,Rodney Jones and others got together. On the restart,Last weeks winner Gary Klossner powered his Ford to the front as Casey Mooneyham just barley made it out of the pits bringing up the rear. With Klossner in control,Point Leader Micheal Maggard was making his way through the pace as Craig Lonning was holding a solid third. As the laps ticked of,Klossner started to pull away with Maggard going through the lapped traffic and Lonning,Huey, and Mooneyham battling for position. As the checkered waved,Klossner gathers the win ans now battles for the top spot in the point standing as Maggard comes home second followed by Lonning,Huey, and Mooneyham as 11 of the original 21 finished on the lead lap.
