DONNELLSON, Iowa (July 1) – Chris Webb led the way to the finish line at Lee County Speedway, while Da¬mon Murty clinched the overall title in Thursday’s IMCA Great American Stock Car Series finale.

Webb took the front spot away from Kenneth Hansen following a series of early cautions and stayed in control throughout the 30-lapper, part of the Liberty Cup special at Donnellson. The final caution waved with six cir¬cuits to go but Webb pulled away from Hansen and then held off Jason Cook for the $1,000 top prize.

Hansen started on the pole and ran second most of the way. Cook finally caught up with a handful of laps left but couldn’t make up the distance on Webb.

Kyle Frederick and Jim Redmann rounded out the top five. A strong local contingent occupied six of the top nine positions.

Murty had run third in each of the first three series events and brought the point lead to town. He was briefly up to second before a sputtering engine took him out of serious contention. His 11th place finish was still good enough to net the champions’ $350 share of the $1,500 series point fund.

The series champion can also attempt to qualify for the Sunoco Race Fuels Race of Champions during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals in September. Murty was already eligible to do so, as a former na¬tional and regional champion.
