(BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS) Wendell Wallace landed the runner-up spot for the second straight year in the Comp Cams Topless 100 at Batesville Speedway in nearby Locust Grove, AR this past weekend. Wendell timed in 21st on Friday night in qualifying and then led the first 16 laps of his heat race en route to a second place run in the heat. This gave the #88 team a tenth place starting spot for the $42,000 to win event.

In the 100-lap feature, Wendell steadily moved up through the top ten with the help of some double file restarts. Wendell got up to the second place spot before the track “rubbered-up,” but not before we could catch leader Shannon Babb. He had to settle for second in the MSE Distributing / J&J Steel #88 GRT / Keith Craft Ford Taurus and the $20,000 second place payoff that went with it. Both Richie Tosh and Jack Sullivan, driving Wendell Wallace and GRT team cars, also made the prestigious starting field at the Topless over the weekend.

This weekend is up in the air for Wendell Wallace Autosports. “We are getting our new truck done soon and it should be done late this week or early next week,” said Wendell today. “We have to get that truck deal switched over, so I don’t know if we are going to be able to make it to Florence or if we are going to hit the MARS shows or not even race at all.” As soon as Wendell Wallace Autosports makes a decision on their weekend plans, you will be able find out what they are by logging on their official home on the web, located at www.wendellwallace.com.
