(BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS) “The Batesville Bullet” Wendell Wallace traveled to the Buckeye state of Ohio last weekend to compete in the 25th edition of the ‘Dirt Track World Championship’. Wendell timed in nineteenth fastest among the 127 cars that took time on Friday night at the K-C Raceway in Chillicothe, Ohio. With four spots being inverted for the heat races, Wendell took off from the pole of the first heat race. The driver of the J&J Steel / Garrett Racing / JFRGraphics.com #88 GRT / Gaerte Grand Prix dominated the heat race to earn a sixth place starting spot for Saturday’s $50,000 to win ‘Dirt Track World Championship.’

The Batesville, Arkansas native quietly marched his way forward throughout the early stages of the 100-lap affair on Saturday night at K-C. Wendell was up to the third position briefly before loosing the position to Rick Eckert. He would then loose valuable positions to Bart Hartman and Chub Frank throughout the course of the $50,000 to win feature event, but Wendell still wound up with a solid sixth place finish. His strong run was hampered by a leaking right rear tire, which caused the #88 to race with less stagger than needed. Wendell was looking to become a two-time champion of the historic event, as he captured the DTWC title back in 2000.

“We had a slow leak in our right rear tire and that loss of stagger really hurt us,” commented Wallace this week via telephone. “My car just got tighter and tighter as the race went on and that slow leak was the major cause of that. It was still a good run for us. I haven’t run with those guys much this year, so I was glad to be competitive all weekend. Hopefully, we can go down to Magnolia Motor Speedway this weekend and have another strong weekend in the Cotton Pickin’ 100.”

The Wendell Wallace Autosports team will make the haul to Columbus, Mississippi and the Magnolia Motor Speedway this weekend for the second annual ‘Cotton Pickin’ 100.’ The unsanctioned event will pay $15,000 to the winner and $1,000 just to start the main event. An open practice session will be held this Thursday evening, with pole qualifying and heat race action slated for Friday. The B-Main events and the 100-lap feature event will highlight the racing activity on Saturday night. Wendell finished ninth in the inaugural version of this event, which was held in October of 2004.
