Bargerton, Tennessee (5/21/07) – After nearly a year of lying dormant, West Tennessee Motor Speedway (formerly Thunder Ridge Speedway) is preparing for its grand re-opening on Friday, June 8th.

The west Tennessee speedplant is well known for its high banks, smooth surface, and furious racing action. The track is located less than thirty minutes northeast of Jackson, Tennessee near the town of Lexington. After nearly a year hiatus, three partners have come together to reopen the track and operate it to its full potential. Tennessee racers, Steve Ross, Mike Luna, and Darren Baxter are the three partnering owners, and each one has deep roots in dirt track racing.

“Right now our intention is to run six to eight events in 2007. If things go well, there is a distinct possibility that more shows will be added,” comments owner Steve Ross. Ross goes on to say “over the past few years several of the area tracks have closed, leaving racers with limited opportunities to race, and we are trying to feel that void, while at the same time doing our best to work hand in hand with the other tracks in the area.”

The grand reopening is set for Friday, June 8th as the Southern Regional Racing Series (S.R.R.S.) Super Late Models invade the 3/8 mile high banks of West Tennessee Motor Speedway. The S.R.R.S. competitors will be competing in a $3,000 to win event that pays $300 just to start. Super Late Model drivers from across the region are expected to converge on the facility for the first Super Late Model event at the track in more than two years. Also, other classes tentatively scheduled to race on opening night will be Open Wheel Modifieds, Street Stocks, Pure Streets, and Hummers. An open practice is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, June 7th. Full event details as well as classes that will be in action on Friday, June 8th will be released in the next week.
