Western KY Race Recap 8-27-04

Racing action heated up last night at Western KY Speedway in Nebo, KY with what could be called anything but a regular night of racing. Everything kicked off with UMP Open Wheel Mod. qualifying... First car out sure to have an advantage with the adverse track conditions due to a flood just 2 hours before race time. The UMP National Points Leader and MO. Points Leader Rusty Griffaw would make his 3rd over the center apperance at WKS for the year and have luck of the draw and take the track first. Griffaw would blister the track with a 17.90 around the 3/8 mile and capture the Weir Transportation Pole. Mike Harrison ventured down to WKS after the threat of rain and was 2nd quick for the night after no hot laps and never laying eyes on the track before!
Heat Race winners would include... Rusty Griffaw, Mike Harrison and Clayton Miller who currently rides 12th in the nation 3rd in TN and 9th in KY.
The feature would sure to be a barn burner with Griffaw on the point and Harrison outside Miller and Russell Childress in Row 2. The green flag dropped and Harrison would get the jump on Griffaw. Clayton Miller and Russell Childress would be left behind to battle with Paul Miles for the 3-5th position until Miller had contact and shredded a tire and doing other minor damage and putting him out for the evening. Miles and Childress would continue to battle as Harrison and Griffaw would pull out to a 15 car length lead. as the white flag was waved Griffaw would jump next to Harrison and make a race for the lead thru turn 2 and down the back stretch... side by side into 3 and 4 and a lap car just ahead Griffaw would stand on the gas and the lap car is there.. no contact was made hoever Griffaw would spin giving the win to Harrison in his D&M Performance powered Larry SHAW Race Car to make 21 wins on the season.Harrison was followed by Paul Miles, Randel Sweeney, Russell, Childress and Troy English.

Western KY Speedway is back in action on Sept. 3rd with the Weir Transportation Labor Day 35 for UMP Super Late Models $2,000 to win $200 to start pluse $500 to win Pure Stock and Cruisers and a regular event for the Street Stock and Mods. Gates will open at 5pm with hot laps at 6pm qualifying at 6:30 and Racing at 8pm cst.
