Ken Essary has been racing for about 35 years (I think). He is still winning races as he did at Midway Speedway in Lebanon Friday night. He is running 2nd in points with the Show Me Racing Series.

If you talk to one of these guys......or any other racer entering their 4th or 5th DECADE of racing........please ask them how long they have raced.......and what they raced.
The reason I am curious is name me another sport where you can compete as long and still be as successful as a Don Klein.
Most stick and ball types are washed up after a couple of decades......Klein is still going strong after FIVE decades.
Simply........I am impressed by St. Louis racers.

Tubby raced the first night this year. Since then he has helped someone else on their sprint car and has had them drive his car. He has hopes to drive again but has had health problems. A few years ago on his car he had "Racing in 7 Decades", and not long ago the energizer bunny with "he keeps going, and going and going" He started racing in 1949 and had to have a permission slip from his mother in order to race because he was not 21.

Eileen, I think you and Joyce Standrdige should get together and co-author a book about the St Louis Area racing scene! I defintely would by a copy. There is so much history of racing in this area, I can see why the Nascar set are buying up the local tracks. Stock Car racing at its best right here in the Midwest!
Make sure there is an autograph page just for the signatures that can still be gotten right at your local race track!
