What ever happened as to why the WoO Sprint cars dont come to Tri-City Speedway anymore?

I believe Kevin said it best a couple of years ago- "There's more to sprint car racing than the Outlaws." I've seen some excellent 360 and 410 races there!

the outlaws come at a heavy price..you dont need WOO to bring name guys.. i believe you put enough $$ up, most of the name guys will show up.

Not if they are commited to a series. Thet only races I have seen that are the exception are the big sprint car races such as Knoxville and Eldora.

historically, the WOO have only about 13/14 guys that travel with that group. they rely on local guys to 'fill the field'. due to several factors, that 13 or 14 guys is no longer. its more like 10. they will get the names.

The I55 World of Outlaws race brings about 20 twenty travelers....it's very rare to see Schatz, Kinser, Saldana, and others, outside of an WoO show

You may get the big names IF you have a race that does not conflict with their normal schedule. I haven't really payed that much attention to the WoO since late the 90's so I don't really know what dates are open for such big money races. What exactly constitutes a Big Money show to the sprint car racers??

I have posted my opinions several times in the past about the WOO at Tri-City. I have been critical of Wente about how I felt he pandered to those guys with little consideration for the drivers who supported his track every week but in hindsight he was probably doing what he had to do. He had a lot of money invested in those shows and while he did make a lot of money off of those shows he also ran the risk of losing a lot of money if the weather did not co-operate. The last time I was at the track when they raced there the guys directing traffic in the parking lot motioned me towards the bowling alley on 203. I told them that I was on a pit crew and I was there every week and asked if I could park closer to the pits. They ignored me and just kept motioning towards the bowling alley. As I was walking to the pits, I saw several cars be allowed to park where I wanted to. I DO WANT TO THANK WENTE FOR HAVING PEOPLE ORGANIZE THE PARKING LOT. I have not been to a WOO sprint car show since then and have no intentions of ever going to one again. That is the best way of protesting there is. I have made almost every big Late Model show at Tri-City since the Gundakers have bought the place and enjoyed every one of them especially the one where I won over $700 in the 50/50 drawing.

I believe (but I'm sometimes wrong) the Outlaws still have the 48 hour/250 mile rule. If a member races somewhere or lets a track use his name in advertising print and the race is within 250 miles and 48 hours of an outlaw show the driver is docked 250 championship points.

The Outlaws purse for a regular show is $10,000 win. $1000 for fifteenth $600 to start. Pays well through first 10 spots. Special shows pay more.

They don't stray far from outlaw shows at all anymore. Best chance to see some of them at a non-outlaw show is at Short Track Nationals last week in October in Little Rock.

There is no series racing that can come close to the Outlaws. Not even close!!

Sorry, i bet you will find that the majority of people on here would prefer a good modified or late model race over the Outlaws. With the outlaws you get the same single file racing and the same 3 or 4 guys who are going to win on most nights. The PowrI midgets put on a much better show.

I agree with both openwheelmnd and no right turns...there is no other experience like attending a World of Outlaws sprintcar race. You know you are going to get the best of the best, the best racing you will see all year, the best track prep(or try to), the best announcer in all of motorsports, and the best drivers in sprint car racing. I know the regulars on the Outlaws trail is down this year and I think its due to the economy and the stupid tire rule they have. No local racer wants to have to fork out the necessary money to run their stupid Goodyear tires....and believe me, they arent cheap. What to the Hoosier/Goodyear wars that brought out the best in racing. I do think the Outlaws have really taken a turn for the worst. There was no doubt 10 years ago when the WoO came to town, you were going to see the pits absolutely packed to the gills with sprint cars. Everybody wanted to see the hotshoe local compete(and hopefully beat) guys like Steve Kinser, Sammy Swindell, Jac Haudenschild, and the best of the best. Sprint car racing has become so expensive, you have to have a $45,000 engine just to even get to started to want to compete with these guys. They are going to have to rethink things and come up with some engine rules otherwise you give it another 10 years and engines will be going for $100,000! I will still spend my hard earned money on seeing the "Greatest Show On Dirt" any time I can get the chance!!

Well I guess you have never seen a WoO race at I-55 in Pevely then. Absolutely the best racing you will see all year my friend. Please take my advice and be there on August 6th for the Ironman...you wont be disappointed!!

WoO used to be "Da Show" to make for sprinters. Not any more. To many regional series closer to home and put a better show than what the Outlames can do! Went to a Outlame Show... Local guys put on a better show! J.M.O.

Have you been to the IronMan 55 at Pevely?

Pay that much for dune buggies geeesh lol

I can same the same for cab cars in my opinion. I have tried to make myself watch late models and mortifieds but they are just not for me.

I attend the Peveley outlaw shows but for me the rest of the year it's driving back and forth to Indiana to watch USAC and other non-wing shows. Much better than the outlaws for me.

Last week went to the 5 nights of USAC Indiana Midget Week. They raced sprint cars at each track during the week also. Got to see midgets and sprints for 5 nights for $20 a show. Great racing and good car counts all week.

All week saw some cars starting 18th or worse finishing top five.

Whatever class of cars you like just go and support it as all the tracks need your help.

They used to come every year...what ever happened?

Back to the original question - I saw a post on another forum by the promoter of a major dirt track in the Midwest that has not had the WoO for several years. He said he looked into scheduling the Outlaws this year but the only dates that they had available were in October.
