What if the Summernationals used a passing points system?

Qualifying is part of what makes it a big show, it adds to the exitement. I think they should just stop putting provisionials into the dash, instead the same guys who can get a provisional into the dash should get one into the feature, with no alternate provisionals, just the first guy in line for it.

I agree with Dean, Qualifying makes a big show. That way every driver has a chance to be in the top 5-10. (JMO)

The format works and has for years. The payout is what drivers complain about. It sounds like this maybe in the works to be changed in the future.

It works to the extent that a guy with a bad qualifying time has little chance of transferring into the main event. There are many good qualifiers who have mastered the skill of making their car wide enough to keep the good racres stuck behind them. To echo what 24 said, Babb would still be tough to beat, as the cream would still rise to the top. But having the fast guys come from the middle or the back would make it more interesting for the fans- without whom, no promotor would open the gates.
