Hey Jim I run a bead of black silicone around the tire before we mount it on a damaged wheel. I had one last year that I mounted this way and it held air all winter long. It's kinda messy when it pops on the bead there is a little clean up involved but better than buying a new wheel. Even it it still leaks a little as long as you keep air in it so it doesn't break away form the bead it will last for a long time. See ya Friday.
I've always laid the wheel on its side and put water around the bead then you can see where its leaking, then take a BFH and tap around the rim where its leaking until you see the bubbles stop. That has always worked for me. 7 out of 10 times it will stop it the other 3 times it slows it down alot to where you might lose a pound a day. Hope it works for you as well as it does for me.
