Don Hobbs died several years years ago from cancer. We lost a good one in him!
I’ll second that….got my first taste of racing pitting for Don when he drove the Stroh’s beer car.
Dennis Sellers works for a local excavation company. Asked him a year or two ago if he ever goes to races anymore and was told no. The flying deuce was a good driver no doubt about it.

Hammerin Bill Patton still lives in meadowbrooke and has his boy racing micros in the area. they travel all over and do alot of winning

I just talked to Don Rottler a couple of weeks ago... he finally retired from Southtown Dodge after about 30 years of turning wrenches there. Since he quit racing, he has been bulding/selling some beautiful custom hot rods. I asked him if he ever thought about returning to the track, and mentioned that even his hometown rival and friend Tom Vogt (who quit racing around the same time Rottler did) came out of "racing retirement"... his reply was "hell no! Not with the silly rules they ahve in place now!" He stated that it costs 10 to twenty times more to run a car nowadays then what it did when he last raced... yet pay-outs are the exact same. (He has a point)

Plus, he also said that "racing isn't like it used to be." He said that "racing was racing" when the fast cars had to start in the back like they did when he raced. Nowadays they get to start up front and to him, "that's not racing either." (he has a valid point there too)

I don't look for him to be back in a car anytime soon. LOL!

If you think about it... what he said kind of makes sense... I do miss the "old days" when it WAS a whole lot more fun.
