White Makes Statement with Columbus Speedway Opener Win

Columbus, MS - Saturday night Columbus Speedway officially kicked off the 2006 weekly racing season. Featured at "The Bullring" would be the Rebel Challenge Weekly Racing Series Super Late Models in action with the $1,500-to-win Golden Triangle 30 along with all Weekly Racing Series divisions including the debut of the Stormpay.com Crate Late Model Weekly Racing Series.

26 Super Late Models would be on hand in the first event run under new tire rules. Jeff White of Kosciusko, MS would take the checkered flag and the win. Jimmy Cliburn, Dean Carpenter, Jamie Dacus, and Jim McDuffie rounded out the top five. White, who started off 2006 strong at with a fabulous performance in a field stacked with high-level national talent during the Winter Classic in January, further staked his claim as the "next big thing" in the area with his first feature victory at Columbus Speedway.

In Open Wheel Modified action, Jeremy Shaw would build on a dominating heat race win to take an equally dominating feature event victory over the strong 28-entry field. Chris Ragan would emerge from a race long multicar battle for the lead in the upstart Stormpay.com Crate Late Model class with a pair of laps remaining and go on to take the win over Talbert Goldman and Tim Staples.

Randy Cummings would easily lay claim to Late Model Stock feature victory in a race that had only one caution. Terry King would take the Street Stock checkers, and Michael Pendley would win the Mini Stock event. Wayne & Jamie Sudduth took the Cruiser win, and Ben Williams ran away from the Hot Shot field to add another victory to his resume.

Next weekend, March 10th and 11th, Columbus Speedway hosts The 5th Annual Rebel Challenge presented by Brown Engineering. Super Late Models race for a possible $11,000-to-win in two full nights of racing action featuring the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Super Late Models on Friday night and the prestigious Rebel Challenge on Saturday night. Also featured are the Open Wheel Modified, Late Model Stocks, and Street Stock divisions.
