Whos racing tri city next year??

I highly doubt Godfrey would retain a UMP sanction if they moved to Saturday nights.

What are you going to do if your big names turn out to be less than a dozen LM's and fifteen mods and ten sportsman and fifteen or less SS on a Sunday show up? Lose money to keep the track UMP, or go back to Saturday nights and hope more people come back from Highland and Pevely?

When Tri-City raced Saturday's they were competing against I-55, Highland, Mt.Vernon, the two Paducah area tracks & I believe MCS. Now they dont have any competition! Everyone keeps saying that they are going to lose all of the regulars to the other Saturday tracks but nobody has took into consideration all the drivers they will pick up from these Saturday tracks  . No they wont get every driver within 200 miles but they will get there share. I look for Tri-City to have the best racing in the STL area next year.

Did I forget to mention the fans they will pick up from these other Saturday tracks also??? :D

Any idea on what track they are going to run the LM and Mods on? This will determine how many will show up on a regular basis, 1/2 mile adds alot to the motor expenses on a team. I am glad to hear of a track running on sundays again and I want to wish the best of luck to Kevin...

I think the vaast majority of butts in seats on a Saturday night are simply "Saturday night race fans" looking for a cheap night out on Saturday nights. Not hard core "go to every show they can" fans.

You gotta take into consideration that when I started going back to local racetracks when I moved back from overseas, I knew no one at the track and I was just a guy sitting in the stands on a Saturday night because I like racing. And it gave me a lot of opportunity to talk to different people every week, and learn a lot about the kinds of people who just sit up in the stands each week and why they do it. (Yeah, imagine that, me talking to perfect strangers... lol)

I sat in the stands for 2 whole seasons and most of a third, at Highland, Godfrey, TCS, etc, before I bought a 4 banger and went racing. Even when I bought that, I had no connections into racing at all. I just bought the thing and started figuring stuff out from there, really. I was one of those butts in the seats, not connected into the racing community then. I can't see the bulk of those same people being there on Sundays. I could very well be wrong. I hope so. I don't want to see TCS close, because even if not this year, I would like to race there regularly at some point in the future. Sunday or not.

It is going to be very interesting to see how this pans out, and I am sure some of us will be eating our words one way or another come June.;) :D

Yes, some of us (you) will eat our words, there is enough serious racers who run for points that will be there. Why would Godfrey switch? Does everybody have to run on saturday?

Why are the most successful tracks around here Saturday night venues?

It is not rocket science.

So which saturday track was so successful? No track in the area averaged more than 20 lates, including pevely. What this is called is an over abundance of saturday night tracks. With only one sunday night track, how could it not explode? I don't know what your smoking, but could you get me some? :)
And P.S. it's not rocket science, there are only 3 out of the 10 or so tracks in the area that don't race on saturday, and B'town has no lates.

Im glad that Tri-City is racing on Sundays. I think Kevin is doing a great thing! They should have great crowds every week! It will make for alot more cars as well since it is Ump sanctioned! I can't wait for next year, and anyone who doesnt think it is a good idea, and who thinks they wont get alot of cars, doesnt know how many racecar drivers we have around here!

It's a great idea! Why compete against 6 tracks when you can no competition on sun nights. Maybe some drivers will run on fri then sun at tri-city leaving sat open to repair there car if they had problems.

At least I am up front and can entertain the possibility that I could be wrong. Unlike some people.
I'll just quote myself. And you obviously didnt get to to Highland this year, unlike me. The place was packed every Saturday night. And of course, you did not go to TCS, either. It was more crowded than it has been in years on a Sat night.

Obviously you think car count means success. You arent a promoter. Promoters don't care how many people show up to race, they measure success by full grandstands. You can run two cars all night; if the stands have 1500 in them, it is a great night of racing to a promoter. Enjoy whatever you are smoking, cause it's obviously much better than what I am.;)

Didn't Godfrey run on Saturdays until the mid 80s?

Yes, Godfrey switched to Fridays somewhere around 1986. Godfrey nearly went belly-up trying to run against Tri-City, which (for you trivia fiends) was a Friday night track until somewhere around '84. The final straw in the decision to switch Godfrey to Fridays was when the Super Modifieds boycotted Godfrey one night (I believe a pay cut was the reason), and TCS told them to come on down.

I bet Belle Clair really would like to see Godfrey go to Saturdays, lol. Farmer City likely would like to see that happen, too.

Yes, especially with George Carroll running the place now. I have much respect for all whom I have worked for at Godfrey, but Carroll definitely had the place rockin' when he had it the last time.

This is just a few questions for anyone who knows...Why exactly did Tri-City choose Sunday-night racing? and has anyone heard of Mount Vernon Speedway..like who all plans on racing there and are they running the normal like Saturday night racing and normal classes....like Steel Block, Late Model, Modified, Hornet and Bomber? They sure need to update the site..!!! Someone..if you know please reply asap! Thankx bunches!!!

There is another post on here about Mt. Vernon. Talks about dropping UMP Late Models weekly show and featuring the Steel Blocks as the top class.

All the weekly shows will run on the 1/4 mile at Tri-City. The half mile will remain for special events only.

Yea sorry, I don't go to the races to see the crowds, I go to see race cars, the more the better. You and B.P. should have a debate, since you both have so much time on your hands.

i remember those saturday nights at Godfrey..some good racing. If it wasnt for the unp clash between tracks being so close(Pevely aint close..but to ump it is) i think id be a no brainer to switch.
