Why Hurricane Why???

4-16-05 Not a good night to be a Francis fan. for more info, read my post in general discussion forum at stlracing.com

i was not there but i will not stop my hurricane support
no matter what he did because i have seen joe race dirty
and john to

Don't want you to stop your "hurricane" support. I'm not saying things do not happen on the track in the heat of a race, I just wish Mike did not go to the inside birm in turn 1 to do what he did. This in my opinion is what makes this a great sport to follow, you support your favorite driver and I'll support mine, and we get to discuss our differences on this great forum.

"if u can not pass back off the gas " or stop making a little quarter mile track into a fifth mile just pass clean this is the third car he has slammed to get by he has a good enough car to do so why not try the outside

From where I was sitting, just coming out of turn 4, Mike definitely spun John. I really thought John would get his spot back and Mike would be moved to the back of the pack. But I think John had a flat anyway as a result of the contact. As for the turn 1 move on Joe, it looked to me like very hard, aggressive driving. Not exactly dirty or illegal, but the kind of move that bends sheet metal and often causes wrecks. And, the kind of move that leads to shouting matches (or worse) and hard feelings. Also the kind of move that makes for good forum fodder!

i saw what happened when francis hit bohn...very simple...he was racing just inside the same line john bohn was...with his nose just inside bohns left rear...happens 100 times a night...but this time francis' right rear hit the HUGE rut in turn 3 and it bounced his whole front end around towards the outside forcing him to hit john bohn with pretty great force. francis is not at all to blame for the track conditions and i think any driver could have had the same think happen to him...what happened on the last lap on the other hand i have no idea, but congrats to kasey burch on his 1st win.

I guess my eyes were playing tricks on me again. I need to get that checked.

Myself, I would call it aggressive driving. They were racing and passing on the inside berm. I agree the track had some ruts in it, but after about the 15th lap you would think that they knew where the ruts were.

think they run the prefect line every lap? then why do good drivers still spin out? people get tired...cars get lighter...tires wear away...track changes...it takes a pretty amazing driver to be perfect...that rut was only about a car length from the burm. i have no reason to side with anyone here as i dont know any one of them better than another...im just telling you what i saw. you can ask the flagman from that corner and you can talk to francis as they would both discuss it with you im sure...there is obviously a reason he didnt get black flagged when he so blatantly spun him out...just use some common sense.

I'm so sorry Zac, you're right. How could I be so dumb as to not use common sense. I guess I had better just get a complete health check-up since I'm having my eyes checked out also.:(

By the way Zac, thanks for the driving 101 tip, I had no idea drivers get tired, cars burn fuel and get lighter, tires burn off or that the track changes. Also, I must apologize, I didn't see you when you went out there with a tape measure to find out how close that rut was to the burm. Must have been that eye problem again.:( I'm gonna call tomorrow and make that appointment.

what the hell???? this post is dumb!! when giesler hit bohn it broke the left rear spring in bohns car!! then coming out of 4 mikey had a nose under bohn then mikey caught the rut coming out of 4!!! mikey stops and tells the flagman in 3 and 4 to give bohn his spot back because it was insidental contact!! i could under stand if mikey went by and flipped bohn off but he didnt!!!

Steve

Thats right cause I seen the thing to. Mike did not mean to hit Bohn like that, so back off of "The Hurricane" and leave him alone.

I thought it was pretty honest of him to stop and talk to the flagman........and I saw Geisler hit John. When he was hit, he was extremely sideways and barely hanging on--his lack of momentum contributed to the impact.

Mike and John talked after the races, Mike did ask the official to give John his spot back, but the official said he saw the whole thing and that he could not give him his spot back because the incident was due to track conditions not "dirty driving". Still yet, Mike apologized. As for Geisler, it's a racing thing, depends on whose driver's seat your in or where you're spectating from. If anyone knows Mike, they know he would never intentionally take anyone out of a race. Lets just say, nobody likes to lose or give up a leading position without trying to hold their own!

I've found the whole discussion enlightening. Seriously.

Even though I was looking right at Mike and John when the incident happened, I've learned something from the posts of others. For example, now that I think about it, Mike did seem a little crossed up just before the contact. And, I do remember a rut or something coming out of turn 4 because I saw Tim Montgomery hit it a few times. And just because Johns car was low on the left rear, I assumed it was a flat; didn't realize it was a broken spring.

Just goes to show you how, even when you think you saw everything, it isn't necessarily so. That's why eye witnesses to wrecks and crimes often have such different stories. Thanks for the other perspectives you guys.
