David Brannon, opened the 2005 points season by putting last season far behind him. The former Big 10 feature winner(in 2003) qualified third quick then ran down early leader Jerry Owens and took the lead on lap fourteen. Once in the lead David opened up a full straight-away advantage over the final ten circuits and won easily, going away. Former Big 10 champion Owens motored to a runner-up finish with Shawn Mitchell having a fine run to take third.

If Brannon’s drive wasn’t impressive enough, how about Fayetteville’s Corey Posey. Corey arrived late, started twenty second(dead last on the field) survived a wild first lap melee(as did Brannon) then charged through the field to grab a well deserved fourth place finish by nipping former champion Jerry Ashley in the closing laps. Owens set quick time with a 15.21 clocking.

Ever heard of saving the best for last? Well that may have been the case on this Saturday night. The Final feature of the night was the Outlaw Pony main event. Heat winners were defending champion Tony Patterson and 2004 Mini Stock Champion Jason Todd.

When the green flag was unfurled it was fifteen laps of side by side racing with the heat winners always crossing the finish line side by side! Todd led eleven of the laps while Patterson led four times and the all important checkered flag lap.

This was not however just a two car battle, no sir. Row two starters Brad Sain and Mike Brashears ran side by side for many of the fifteen laps and pushed the lead duo but had no where to go what with Patterson and Todd running side by side. Sain prevailed in his battle for third while Brashears settled for fourth in front of fifth place finisher Jamie Ward Outlaw Pony

Runner-up Ricky Riddle had to come from the rear after an early caution flag relegated the hard charging Riddle to the back of the pack.

Jason James was fourth in front of Barry Whitsett and Marty Anderson.
