Denny Woodworth, Michael Long, Tony Dunker, Steve Carlin and Brandon Savage all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, August 21 during Budweiser/Rinella Company Night at the Races.

Mike Dyche jumped into the lead of the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event and lead the first nine laps before Denny Woodworth made the pass to take over the top spot on the tenth circuit. Woodworth then put on a real show as he pulled away from the field to win by almost a half a lap on a very heavy and rough track. The real race was for the second spot between Dyche, Terry Gallaher, Jerry Weisenberger and Lonnie Bailey. The four veterans put on quite a race as they diced back and forth with all of them taking turns in passing each other over the final twenty two laps. Weisenberger finally found that the top groove was to his liking as he passed Dyche for the second spot on the twenty seventh lap and pulled away to take the runner up spot to Woodworth who was long gone. Dyche held on for third with Gallaher in fourth and Brian Kenning in fifth. Gallaher and Weisenberger grabbed the heat race wins with Lonnie Bailey taking the checkered flag in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. Mark Burgtorf now holds a 45 point lead over Lonnie Bailey going into the final night of late model points racing next week.

Michael Long made the Miller Lite A Modified feature event a runaway. Two quick caution period resulted in the loss of David Weitholder and Henry Delonjay on the first lap of the event. Brandon Lennox then grabbed the lead on the third attempt to get the feature event underway but Lennox fell victim to a flat tire on the fourth lap. Long the took off on the ensuing restart and pulled away from the field to take his fourth feature win of the season. Danny Lake held off Jim Roach for the third spot after the two battled over the second spot for the final portions of the twenty lapper. Roach settled for third followed by Wes Mayfield in fourth and Jim Powell in fifth. Delonjay and Long were the heat race winners with David Weitholder taking the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. Delonjay now holds a 24 point lead over Lennox in the points race with three more points races left in the season.

Tony Dunker got past Jeff Waterman on the start of the B Modified feature event and never looked back to take his fifth feature win of the season. Dunker held off Terry Houston on an eighteenth lap restart after a caution period to take the win with Houston settling for second, Wyatt Lance third, Jeff Waterman in fourth and Robbie Reed in fifth. Dunker and Chris Larson were the heat race winners. Wyatt Lance now holds a twenty five point advantage over Dunker in his quest for his first track points championship at Quincy Raceways. Larson and Joe Hooper were DQ’d from the event after an altercation on the backstretch after the checked flag flew.

Jim Powell took the lead of the twenty lap Bomber main event at the drop of the green flag and led the first nine circuits until he slipped high in turn two giving the lead to Eddie Dieker. Dieker then battled for two laps with Adam Birck for the top spot but Birck had engine problems bringing out the caution flag on the eleventh lap. Powell then took over in second and challenged Dieker on the restart but retired to the pits a lap later with mechanical woes giving the second spot to Steve Carlin. Carlin put the pressure on Dieker over the remaining laps and was able to sneak by Dieker at the checkered flag to take the win. Dieker settled for second with Larry Powell in third, James Lain in fourth and Dusty Bingaman in fifth. Lain, Gary Lewis and Jim Powell were the heat race winners. Dieker now holds an eighteen point margin over Birck in the points race.

Brandon Savage led the first eighteen laps of the Short Tracker feature event but Dennis Schulte put the pressure on Savage from the tenth lap on and was able to get a nose in front of Savage at the white flag setting up a side by side battle to the checkered flag with Savage getting the advantage off turn four and taking the win. Schulte settled for second with Darren Morgan in third, Don DeMint in fourth and Scott Gallaher in fifth.

The Season Championship will be on the line for the Budweiser IMCA Late Models as the national points season ends next Sunday night. The Late Models will also have the annual Summy Tire and Auto Center Late Model Dash Shootout on tap as the top 8 cars in Trophy Dash Points will compete in a twenty lap shootout for a purse of $1000. The P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash Points Series for both the A and B Modifeds will come to an end next Sunday as well with the Champions being crowned that night. Points racing will continue in all divisions except the Late Models over the next three weeks as the season winds down.
