Daryn Pittman and Justin Henderson took to the track at the Tulsa Expo Center on Thursday in the second Qualifying night of the 21st Annual Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Tulsa , Oklahoma , as a record field of nearly 280 drivers continue to compete for one of the coveted 24 starting spots in Saturday’s 50-lap A-Feature.

Pittman, a native of Owasso , Okla. , who finished fourth in World of Outlaws points in 2006 on the strength of five A-Feature and two preliminary feature wins, was making his first appearance at the Chili Bowl since 2001. He began the night by finishing third in the fourth heat, earning enough passing points to move on to the second A-Qualifier where he finished 10th. Pittman finished the night in the B-Main, where he encountered some bad luck and finished 14th.

Justin Henderson, a native of Sioux Falls , South Dakota , who finished eighth in World of Outlaws points in 2006, made his second straight trip to the Chili Bowl this year. He started the evening in the seventh heat, where he finished sixth. This put Henderson in the first Last Chance race, where he came up just one spot short of transferring to the first A-Qualifier when the checkered flag was waved by Chief Starter, Roger Slack, Director of Racing Events at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway, where the World of Outlaws will compete twice this season, including the inaugural Outlaws World Finals November 1-3.

Reigning 360 OTC World of Outlaws Late Model Series Champion and Chili Bowl winner Tim McCreadie took to the track in the eighth heat and finished fourth. That helped the native of Watertown , New York earn enough passing points to move into the first A-Qualifier, where he finished 12th after bad luck befell him. In the second B-Main McCreadie suffered a flat tire that ended his night in the 16th spot.

Shane Cottle of Indiana won the 25-lap A-Feature on Thursday night to lock himself into the finale on Saturday.

In action on Friday night, will be Terry McCarl, making his first Chili Bowl start, as well as Jason Martin in his maiden voyage to the Tulsa Expo Center . Also, Hall of Famer Shane Carson, the Vice President of Race Operations for the World of Outlaws will be in action. World of Outlaws team owners and NASCAR stars Kasey Kahne and Tony Stewart will also take to the quarter-mile. From the 360 OTC World of Outlaws Late Model Series Josh Richards will compete on the third and final Qualifying night of the event.

The 2007 World of Outlaws season opens on February 9 at Volusia Speedway Park with the 36th Annual DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Mopar Speed Shop.
