ALLEN, TX (February 16) – The recent purchase of the World of Outlaws by Boundless Motor Sports Racing, Inc., has many sprint car racing fans concerned that the company’s emphasis will shift toward the Late Model Series Boundless also runs. That – sprint car fans – will not happen, series officials announced Monday.
"The World of Outlaws has been the leader in sprint car racing for 26 years and that’s not about to change," series Founder and President Ted Johnson said. "Our company has been sold, but I’m still the president and sprint car racing will continue to be what’s emphasized here. The World of Outlaws will always be, first and foremost, the leader in sprint car racing."
Boundless Chief Operating Officer Bobby Hartslief echoed Johnson’s sentiments, saying he is excited about the sprint car racing series’ future.
"The World of Outlaws is, without a doubt, the biggest brand in dirt motor racing in the world," Hartslief said. "It is the backbone of winged sprint car racing. Our intention is to continue to build the sprint car brand to make it bigger and better than it’s ever been before. On the contrary, I think the interest shown in our late model division is indicative of the interest that exists in the World of Outlaws brand throughout the country. As you build the brand, more of corporate America will become involved in the brand. The more corporate America gets involved in the brand, things will start happening that have never happened before. We’re looking forward to some very exciting developments with the World of Outlaws."
The World of Outlaws fire-breathing mudslinging sprint cars, which opened its 2004 season with a landmark triple-program event at Parramatta City Raceway near Sydney, Australia, in early January, will resume racing at Manzanita Speedway Friday and Saturday. Sprint car racing’s premier series will sanction 71 events over 100 dates at 50 tracks in 29 American states and one foreign country this year.
The series has also made great strides in the electronic media. The Outdoor Channel will produce and telecast 35 World of Outlaws events on a tape-delayed basis in 2004. The one-hour telecasts will air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Eastern Time between late March and mid-November as part of The Outdoor Channel’s "Wednesday Night Horsepower" time slot. Most telecasts air within 14 days of each race. Additional replays will be presented Saturdays at 8 a.m. Eastern Time and Thursdays at 10 p.m. Pacific Time. The Manzanita event will be televised March 31st.
