Would you like to see crate racing at I-55????

Definetly no to the crates. I-55 averages 20+ lates, 30-40+ mods, 30+ sportsman, and 20+ Pro-4. The Pro 4 class pays out a total of $150, why would Ray want to get rid of a profitable class for him? No track is gonna average 30+ crates, lucky to average 10. I would be fine with them maybe switching with Belleclair a couple times and running Bombers at I-55 and Pro-4 at Belleville though.

Who are you talking about? Thank you for everybody's imput on this subject and nobody has a wrong answer. Thanks again, Keith

me thinks they are talking to bigmouthmike. i can go with or without the crates. for whatever reasons they do seem to be plagued with more cautions than the other classes. get that cleared up and i would be ok with them.

to answer your question, I watch the late models when rusty griffaw is racing or it is a big show, or anyone else i know. i watch the modifieds and sportsman cars most of the time, and the bombers when the ponders are racing.

i like watching people i know race. i would bet you just watch a bunch of people you dont even know and dont give the lower classes the time of day even though they have as good or better races

Here is my proposal and also why I'm proposing it.

Friday

BelleClair - UMP LM, UMP Mod, UMP Sport, UMP Factory Stock (Bomber)

TCS - Super Late Models (unsanctioned), Modifieds (Unsanctioned), UMP Crate LM, UMP Street Stock, UMP 4 Cylendar

Basicly, no change on Friday night

Saturday

I-55 - UMP LM, UMP Mod, UMP Sportsman, UMP 4-Cylendar

Highland - UMP LM, UMP Mod, UMP Crate, UMP Factory Stock or UMP Street Stock (bomber class, pick one and get in line with UMP rules PLEASE!!!!), UMP 4 cylendar

Sportsman explanation. This would get all local Sportsman under the allied umbrella so that they all are running under the same rules. Belleclair and I-55 has some of the best Sportsman racing in the entire midwest and I believe this change would strengthen what is already a strength.

Crate explanation - If Highland is willing to pay Crates $500 to win they should get the same car count as Tri-City. I think this would spell the end of Crate racing at Mt. Vernon unfortunately. However, I think the class as a whole would benefit and eventually grow.

4-cylendar explanation - These guys get decent car counts and they bring the tracks money from pit passes plus general admission from friends and family. Like or not they aren't going anywhere. Sometimes these guys really do put on a decent show.

There it is folks. That's my proposal and I'm offering supporting statements for my proposal.

This is just my $.02. I say no on the crates. I was Tri-city Friday for the Lucas Oil show, and it seemed like it took the crates longer to run a 20 lap feature than it took the Super LM to run a 50 feature.

I've been to several races where the Mods were out there playing "bumper cars". It happens.

i dont think the bombers should race at i55. only because i dont think the cars are safe enough to run at the track. they are going at least double the speeds at i55 than belleville. they dont hardly have a cage or nothing. and half of them look like demo derby cars to begin with. you know those cages are welded by darrel lick in his garage somewhere where as the mods, latemodels have professionally welded cars. i watched the bomber class from the infield one night and they got balls to even want to go out in those cars on that track.

Continue to post it enlightens us all everyday just how ignorant you really are.

To me, 55 is fine the way they are.pro-4's buy pit passes same as anyone else and strange as it might seem to some, they probably are a major reason for a lot of the folks who continue to fill the stands. they bring their fair share of fans into the grandstands just cause a lot of folks know em and come out to see their friends race. not saying that the other classes dont bring fans, they deffinately do,but the pro-4's bring in the grassroot fans who may be new to the sport. and if the sport is going to keep growing,it needs constant new blood. all this for very little cost to a promotor who has lost at least 2 major events that do a whole lot to fund the rest of the operation due to mother nature. this really isnt the time to do a whole lot of changing at 55. and i dont see what all the fuss is about crates is anyway. they have sportsman cars which are not really a whole lot different then crates anyway. lap times are similar, and the sportsman class at 55 ussually draws a good number. maybe let the crates run wih em but make em bolt on lead. ive never been a proponet of crates in the first place, and until they out number super lates,i dont really see em as becoming a viable class. and even then, folks will chip away at the rules till
they become full blown lates anyway.

heah extremeracejunk. the only reason people get your cars is because they cant afford a quality built car or you give them one for advertisement. nice website by the way. you might want to update it. those cars look like they are from the mid 90's. no wait that was the last time someone actually bought one. this is fun aint it.

Fyi big man mike

I would just like to know do you even OWN a racecar? OR drive a racecar? Or are you one of the elite that goes to area racetracks that get up and leaves as soon as the lates and mods are done for the night? There are alot of owners/driver that have a real jobs, too! Our son (owner/driver) just happens to be a certified welder. I would put his welds up against any one and/or quality built jig race car anywhere.

When I made this post I wasnt talking about losing any of the classes that is already there. I was trying to see about another class(crate)racing also. I enjoy all the class that is already there and would not want to change it either. I thought it would be cool to see crates run also or maybe a special race a couple of times like they do with the ventage and the dwarfs cars do. I do understand that it would cost more money for the payout at the track which means more money at the gate and we dont need that. I also thought that maybe more drivers may run crates also with their other class. Thanks again for everybodys opinion.

We understand your question, but you also have to understand that this has caused some tension over the past couple of years. Some of us are afraid every time there is a rules meeting for the next year, to find out if our class is getting the ax, again. Losing Godfrey was a blow too alot of us (sportsman). Losing Tri-City was another blow. For a track to pick up the crates, someone has to go. Every year the sportsman class grows as streetstocks/bomber/pro-4 drivers are willing to take the next step and move up a class. Face it not everyone can afford a crate or a late model. Mods are just as expensive. Thats why the sportsman class at Allied is so important. They keep a lid on the motor. That keeps the expense down to some degree. Wasn't that the whole point to make the crate class more affordable? An occasional race with the crates wouldn't be bad, but not to add to the program. Sorry I vote no.

Sorry your thread was Hijacked.

Hey fatmoneymike do you have to be a smart azz on every post. You and your crates can stay at Tri-City. Safety are you kidding me. The Allied Sportman Nationals are great. The pure stock seem to put on a great show at I-55 the times they were there.

No crates

Just my opinion, but watching the sportsman class at tcs disappear hurt alot of longtime racers. For the crates to run I-55, I'm sure there would be a sacrificial lamb of sorts. At TCS how many sportsman drivers gave up? Very few moved up to crates or went to street stock. Most race elsewhere,if at all. How many folks would like to see bombers at I-55 over crates?

P.S. bigmoneymike which car is yours?

4 classes are more than enough for any track to pull off successfully.
to do anymore is really pushing it. the tracks that do,fine. id just as soon not like to see 55 try that. if they have to ,in order to keep revenue up,so be it. i am free to leave whenever i choose too. it just makes for a real long night at the track and while i love being at the track, there is a time when enough is enough. maybe if a couple classes agreed to run last as a rule, they could run more classes, but without that,i dont think they need anymore.

Gosh, I do believe I know more about racing than this joker! Guess we all know "littlepennydick", as my good friend calls him, doesn't have the gonads to even get into a race car, much less talk about one intelligently.

Guess he's never seen the Sportsman Nationals at I-55 with the Purestocks. What a day that is!

I vote "NO" for the crates at I-55.

I think Crates are boring and can't stand watching them.

I-55, in my opinion, has the best weekly racing in this area. Keep it the way it is. They would be fools to drop the pro4's or any other class for that matter.
