Lincoln, Ill. (May 22) – Wendell Zulauf, Jr. scored his first career UMP Modified feature win after leading the majority of the 20-lap event. The Springfield, Ill. driver started on pole but soon had to deal with sixth-place starter Brian Lynn. The 2004 Lincoln Track Champ showed Zulauf, Jr. the nose on the outside coming to the white flag and the two battled side-by-side for the final lap. Zulauf, Jr. won the drag race off of the final corner and collected the $500 first-place check. Roben Huffman squirted by Lynn to claim the runner-up position, while Matt Goulden and Joel Funk crossed the line in the top five. Zulauf, Jr., Goulden, and Joe Strawkas won Heat Races, while Rick Weekly won the Consolation Race.
Steve Lance, Jr. led all forty laps of the Central Illinois Late Model Shootout Main. Lance, Jr. was virtually unchallenged throughout the event. Rick Haley followed Lance, Jr. across the line in second, while Matt Beadles, Shane Allen, and Terry Pratt finished in the top five. Lance, Jr. and Haley won the Heat Races.
Larry Russell, Jr. padded his Street Stock points lead with his second Lincoln Speedway win. Russell, Jr. benefited from a four-car melee that eliminated Jim Farley, Terry Miller, and Lance Johnson. Robert Reynolds finished in second, while John Farris had his best run of the season in third after advancing through the Consolation Race. Jamie Suddarth and Kevin Skelton rounded out the top five. Russell, Jr., Farley, and Chris Tackett won in Heat Race action, while Mike Bulpitt topped the Consolation Race.
J. R. Eskew led fourteen laps of the Wild Thing Feature, but it was Eric Keymon crossing the line first. Eskew slipped high in turn two, allowing Keymon to score his second career Lincoln feature win ahead of Eskew, Melissa Sinkhorn, Scott Van Oppen, and Brad Leonard. Keymon, Leonard, and Eskew won the Heat Races. Josh Osborne transferred via a Consolation Race win.
Next week, B&H Promotions will play host to a double-header weekend. Saturday night will feature the first of two Demolition Derbies at the Logan County Fairgrounds. Sunday the ¼-mile will play host to Outlaw Wingless Sprint Cars, 600cc Outlaw Mini Sprints, Illini Midgets, and Wild Things. Grandstand admission is $12.00, with Pit Passes at $25.00.
