Independence Day weekend 2004, Florence Speedway host the highest paying Open Wheel Modified race ever held in the state of Kentucky. This great weekend of racing will kick off with a 20 lap $1,000 to win UMP modified feature on Friday night, followed by a 30 lap $2,000 to win feature on Saturday night and the winner of Sundays 40 Lap feature event will take home $10,000. Many of the nations top drivers are expected to take aim at multiple time track season champion Billy Vaughan Jr. Vaughan has been the man to beat the last two seasons, racking up 13 feature wins in the 2003 season. Despite Vaughan’s dominance Florence Speedway boasts some of the best drivers and racing action in the country. Other drivers picking up feature wins in the UMP modified division in 2003 were Cincinnati, Ohio's Eric Shephard, Blue Ash, Ohio's Kevin Hartman, Portsmouth, Ohio's Ben Adkins, Avoca, Indiana's Matt Bex and St. Charles, Missouri driver Jim Shereck. Located in Union, Kentucky the Florence Speedway is a 1/2 high banked Mile Dirt Oval, this and all Modified races contested in the 2004 at Florence Speedway will be run under UMP sanction.
Florence Speedway is located south of Cincinnati, Ohio just off Interstates 71 and 75. From the north, exit I-71/I-75 at exit 180 (U.S. Route 42 exit) and travel nine miles south on U.S. Route 42. From the south, exit I-71 at exit 72 then travel 3 miles northwest on State Route 14, then 2.6 miles northeast on U.S. Route 42. Each day is a seperate event. Participation on either of the first two days in NOT required to participate in Sunday's program.
* 60 - 90 cars: Draw for time trial order. Heats lined up heads up. Six heats - Top 3 to the feature. Positions 4-13 to Consis. Three Consis - Top 2 to feature.
Heat winners redraw to determine first six spots of feature. Rest of feild lined up from heat/consi finish.
* 90 cars: Draw for time trial order. Heats lined up heads up. Nine Heats - Top 2 to the Feature. Positions 3-8 to consis. Three consis - Top 2 to the feature. Heat winners redraw to determine first six spots of feature. Rest of feild lined up from heat/consi finish.
NOTE: For Sundays $10,000 to win feature. Inside Pole sitter will be the winner of Friday night's feature, and Outside Pole sitter will be winner of Saturday night's feature. If same drive wins both nights, he may select inside or outside and second place from the appropriate night's feature will fill the opposite spot. Sunday Heat winners will redraw to determine their spots.
