Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (January 2, 2009) – Missouri's Mike Halliburton and South Dakota's Michael Coburn headlined Friday's competition as heat race action for the Karts and Quads took place at the Tulsa Expo Raceway's 24th Annual Tulsa Shootout.
With another 62 heat races completed, including 43 in the Karts and 19 in the Quads, Saturday's Tulsa Shootout semi-mains and championship main events have been set.
Eight drivers logged multiple heat race wins in Kart action, with Columbia, Missouri's Halliburton striking for four heat race wins (Stock Light, Stock Medium, Animal Medium and Animal Heavy) and falling just one length short of a fifth win in Stock Heavy competition. Kentucky's Joe Warren also added three heat race wins, with another half dozen drivers claiming a pair of heat race wins.
In Pro Quad action, Michael Coburn of Garretson, SD, topped heat race action in both the Open and 250-cc classes in his bid for a third consecutive sweep of both Pro Quad divisions at the Tulsa Shootout.
Missouri's Josh Hibdon was also victorious in both Pro Quad classes, with four riders (Caleb Schatz, Jake Hornaday, Daren Murray and Nico Lee) picking off wins in both Amateur Quad classes.
Mike Dickerson closed out Friday's action with a victory in the 20-lap Tulsa Shootout Kart Race of Champions.
Racing action at the 24th Annual Tulsa Shootout concludes with Saturday's feature action.
The day opens with the 15 Kart main events at 9:00 a.m. followed by semi-main action for Micros and Quads.
The Micro and Quad main events will hit the track beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday night.
