BATESVILLE AR. The O'Reilly Auto Parts Mid-America Racing Series is back on the road this weekend. Three big nights of racing is in store for the O'Reilly M.A.R.S. competitors over the Labor Day Weekend.

First up will be a return to the Memphis Motorsports Park. Jeff Taylor picked up the win earlier in the year at the action packed 1/4 mile oval. Next up are two tradition laden events. The 14th Annual Fall Nationals at the West Plains Motor Speedway is that tracks longest running special event. Terry Phillips won both West Plains events earlier this season.

Finally, the 32nd Annual Budweiser 4-State Dirt Track Championship is the longest running event in the midwest. Bill Frye and Al Purkey have the Monett Speedway wins so far this season.

Bill Frye of Greenbriar, Arkansas is back atop the O'Reilly M.A.R.S. points standings. Frye scored a pair of top fives this past weekend. Terry Phillips of Springfield, Missouri had been leading the points, but was involved in an early race crash at Lebanon I-44 Speedway that took him out of that race early on, allowing Frye to re-gain the top spot in the series points.

Jeff Taylor of Pleasant Plains, Arkansas is third in series points, and leads Leslie Essary of Crane, Missouri by 58 points. Taylor struggled over the weekend, and finished outside the top ten both nights. Essary re-gained some ground on Taylor with sixth and fifth place runs.

Jeff Floyd of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas returned to O'Reilly M.A.R.S. action after sitting out a pair of events with injuries. Floyd trails Essary by 48 points. Floyd had one top five run over the weekend, and was working on another when a flat tire knocked him out of the top ten.

Mike Brown of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma has been steadily on the rise for the second half of the season. Brown picked up a pair of top tens, and is closing in on Floyd's fifth place. Jerry Buck of Harviell, Missouri remains steady in seventh position. Buck struggled over the weekend, and wasn't able to crack the top ten.

Charlie Randolph of Muskogee, Oklahoma and Dewaine Hottinger of Russellville, Arkansas are eighth and nineth in series points, but only two points seperate the duo. Randolph picked up a top ten on Friday, but was a victum of the tire woes on Saturday and finished outside of the top ten. Randolph still leads the Kuntz & Company Rookie of the Year race. Hottinger notched a third place run at the I-44 Speedway drawing him close to Randolph.

Steve Rushin of Poplar Bluff, Missouri is in tenth position and Joey Mack of Benton, Missouri rides in eleveth. The pair are seperated by just eight points. Each picked up top ten finishes at the I-44 Speedway.

Gary Stolba of Willow Springs, Missouri has been running better as of late and sits in the twelveth spot in the standings. Stolba notched a top ten at Bolivar, but a late race flat tire cost him a possible top five at I-44.

Jack Sullivan of Greenbriar, Arkansas and Shane Essary of Aurora, Missouri reside in the 13th and 14th spots in the points, as well as second and third in the Kuntz & Company Rookie of the Year race.

O'REILLY AUTO PARTS MID-AMERICA RACING SERIES
Schedule Change
Monday, August 25, 2003

by Larry Olson; Mountain Home, AR

BATESVILLE AR. By mutual agreement, the Malden Speedway and the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mid-America Racing Series, have decided to cancel the event scheduled for September 26.

The race, twice rained out, was originally scheduled for the beginning of the season. Reasons cited for the cancelation is the conflict with high school football, plus a competing race at the Memphis Motorsports Park set for the same night.

The O'Reilly M.A.R.S. series will still sanction the second night of action at the Wheatland Speedway on Saturday, September 27. That will be the only points race for the series that weekend. The Wheatland Raceway Fall Classic will have racing on Friday, September 26 as well for Late Models.
