6th Annual Possum Town Grand Prix Details Announced
Columbus, MS-Columbus Speedway promoter Johnny Stokes has finalized and released plans for the 6th Annual Possum Town Grand Prix (PTGP) to be held on Thanksgiving weekend. The fast growing holiday weekend event will see what is hopefully a more competitor and fan friendly format as changes are being made to this years event format to try and accommodate the growth that has been achieved in recent years. There will be afternoon and evening sessions this year, taking advantage of the shorter days and weak sun this time of year. There will be two sessions on Friday and Saturday this year with the track being reworked as needed between sessions each day between sessions.
The PTGP will see action get kicked off Thanksgiving night with an open practice from 7pm until 10pm. Then racing will begin Friday afternoon November 24th with local division qualifying events and a $2,000 to win Super Late Model main and will culminate Saturday November 25th with B-Mains and Championships including the $5,000 to win Possum Town Grand Prix Super Late Model main event.
The PTGP will have two full Super Late Model shows once again this year with a $2,000 to win 30-lap event on Friday night November 24th and another complete show that will feature Super Late Models going 50-laps for $5,000 to win on Saturday night November 25th. There will be performance based bonuses as well giving drivers ample opportunity to increase their potential earnings to well over $7,000 possible to win. The Super Late Models will compete during the evening session both nights.
The PTGP will also see the second visit of the season of the Stormpay.com Late Model Series with their drivers having a 40-lap $3,000 to win and $300 to start main event. Stormpay.com Late Models will qualify, run heats, and the Lighting Dash on Friday night and will run B-Mains and their 40-lap PTGP Championship on Saturday night. The Stormpay.com cars will compete in the evening session both nights.
The Open Wheel Modifieds will also have their traditional big PTGP Championship with the event paying $2,000 to win for the 20-lap main event. The Open Wheel Modified event has traditionally drawn an excellent and competitive field of drivers from across the south. Modifieds will run their qualifying races in the Friday afternoon session and will run their B-Mains in the Saturday afternoon session. Their main event will be part of the Saturday evening session.
Also in action will be the Late Model Stocks. The popular division will have 2 laps of qualifying during the Friday night session and have their B-Mains if needed, during the Saturday afternoon session, and main event during the Saturday evening session.
The Street Stocks and Mini Stocks will have their respective PTGP Championships with the Street Stocks having a $600 to win $60 to start Championship and the Mini Stocks having a $500 to win and $50 to start Championship. Both classes will compete both days in the afternoon sessions.
