Things have been a bit hectic for Al Purkey and his crew, Bill Grover and Eric Britts this Monday morning. They were involved in a head-on crash 15 miles out side of Ruidoso New Mexico last night-early this morning.

Seems a pickup-truck was on going the wrong-way on their side
of the mountain-road highway when the crash occurred. Al stated in a phone conversation this morning that he was riding in
the passenger seat of his dually when he had enough time to duck under the dash for the floor. The Windsheild and right windows were blown out of the truck and wheel(s) were torn off.

"I've been involved in minor fender-benders but nothing like this,
there was no time to do anything. We were along for the ride and all I could think of was the sheer mountain drop on either side of the guard rails."

We understand that everyone is okay and that Russell Portwood had left Coffeyville to bring them back. Al said that it was just amazing that they were alive. The pickup-truck that hit them had one passenger in it and Al thought that he had a broken arm and perhaps had been drinking.

"Sure hope you have a good list of potential sponsors for 2003
Pattie, as we're going to need a Truck and Trailer before the season begins" said Al in closing our conversation.

The weekend started real good at Central AZ Raceway for the returning Champion of the Early Thaw event when he won his
Heat and won the Main event. Saturday it began raining and the
Promoter Ernie Mincy told the Drivers he would run a Sunday afternoon show so they could get it in. Sunday, Al began his day
with another Heat win and was leading the Main when a spindle
broke and he had to call it a day.
