Allied sportsman 602 crate engine.

just whanting to know how many of u on this thread race sportsmen at i55. I race at i55 every sat i have 2 cars and 5 engines so every one whanting to change what is is going to make it hard for a lot of owners to go with this mess. For me to go out and buy 3 engines and every thang to go with them its not going to happen. Take a look at whoes posting how maney drivers whant a rule change going to coast a lot more then whats worth so if the rules change have fun i go some where else.

Kevin, I can agree with ya' as far as not to say this is what you run like it or not. But, I do think a crate motor OPTION is great with rules to help make them a competitive option. There are many who don't have the funds to build what others do and this is an attempt to help them. But I don't think it should ever be mandatory. Reason be there are those who spend less than what a crate motor would cost them. They may or may not win or be competitive, but that's their choosing. So I think allowing this option is good for the class and also think ever making it mandatory would hurt it. jmo

I have a sportsman and race at Pevely (not as much in 2010 as I would have liked). I am for the crate engine because it's too expensive to have the best legal motor available. I believe the initial cost is $4400-6000 to get going in the crate. That's a one time initial purchase and then the Maint cost and rebuilds are a fraction of the money we spend now on the Allied legal motors.

OH,AND BY THE WAY MY FRIEND...sure are a smart a** aint ya,,well guess its time for old fireball to tell it like it is,,we run for 300 to 400 in 3 to 5 thousand dollar (for the most part)cars,,you crate guys run for 5 to 6 hun in 6 to 15 thousand buk cars so looks to me like neather one of us is overly bright economically wise,
You know i love you lenny and you know who this is.Im just riden you to have a good time. But it was true. And if any of us had economical sense we would be saving our money not spending it on some silly racecar. When i figure out how to private mess. you ill tell you who it is. Clue: used to bang out your fenders in st.chuck. talk later

been doin it

I think its great your going to crates. My friend and i had this conversation on the way home many of times. it would trickle down in classes below late model. i love the fact that you guys are having to deal with what we did.maybe if you would relize people like dixon was way ahead of you. he won a race at eldora with my car.so i do you want to listen

i like they crate idea if they gradually phase it in, and when the 'crate' sportsmans are getting beat this year they dont mess with the regular cars, and if they check them regularly.

here is an idea i dreamed up out in the garage, instead of letting these crate sportsman move their motors back or adding lead to the other guys, let the sportsman cars cut the frame rails off like the indiana cars. since allied felt it necessary to allowed stub full frame cars the side rails are just hanging there, and cutting them off would cost 50 cents worth of oxygen. moving the motor back would make you shorten you driveshaft, spare driveshaft, throttle linkage, shifter linkage, etc. and what happens if somebody tries to move the engine back and the transmission hits something or the headers dont fit anymore. and to answer some peoples questions, this whole 'moving the engine back 4" ' is just a rumor i have heard. you cant take a sportsman car anywhere but shepps and macon with the motor moved back, but you can take a stub car to any sportsman track. and i dont have a dog in this fight, i wouldnt cut my frame rails off either way.
