BEAVER DAM, WI (April 21) – The O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series point standings went through a major shakeup during last weekend’s double-feature event at Eldora Speedway. Five of the top 10 positions changed on opening night alone.
Danny Lasoski passed Steve Kinser to regain the points lead with a fourth-place finish in the Preliminary Feature. "The King of the Outlaws" appeared to regain the lead with a last-lap pass Saturday, but his #11 Quaker State Maxim violated the new 1,375-pound weight rule.
Two-time series champion Mark Kinser passed Daryn Pittman for fourth place. Joey Saldana moved into sixth place, passing Jeff Shepard and Shane Stewart. The broken drive shaft in the #4M MIN Motorsports MCI caused Stewart to finish 24th in the Preliminary Feature and drop two positions in the standings. Jac Haudenschild moved into ninth place on opening night, only to have Jason Sides come back with a 25th-to-fourth run and regain the position 24 hours later. Shepard regained sixth place with his third top-five finish of the season in the main event.
Not only did Lasoski regain first place in the standings, he set quick time for the sixth time in the first 17 races. "The Dude," the fastest qualifier only 13 times all of last year, is pleased with the added speed the new Mopar engines provide.
"We're very proud of Paul Kistler building us our Mopar engines," Lasoski said recently. "We've racing without any troubles. He's been working really hard, along with all the guys at the shop."
Jason Johnson, who was once a hard-working mechanic for "The King of the Outlaws," moved into 19th place in the point standings with his fourth top-10 finish in seven main events. Johnson put together his best performance of the season March 14th at State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City, winning the First Dash Race and finishing fourth in the "A" Feature.
Jeremy Campbell won the Second Heat Race and passed three cars to finish 17th in his Eldora Speedway debut Friday. Using a provisional to start Saturday’s main event, Campbell drove his family’s #10C Maxim into 23rd place from outside the 13th row.
Eight drivers have combined to win the first 13 "A" Features and three have won the four Preliminary Features. Twenty-nine different drivers have won heat races this season.
Donny Schatz, Friday’s Preliminary Feature winner at Eldora, will be racing for his second straight victory at The Raceway at Powercom Park Tuesday when the O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series invades the high-banked, 1/3-mile oval formerly known as Beaver Dam Raceway. The 1997 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year won at Powercom Park last July 10th, four days after his $20,000 Duel in the Dakotas victory at Red River Valley Speedway. WoO
