MEMPHIS, TN (April 22, 2003) – The O’Reilly Thunder Racing Series welcomes the stars and cars of the American Sprint Car Series for “Midsouth Spring Nationals” this Friday and Saturday night at the Memphis Motorsports Park Dirt Track.

The ASCS will be making its first Memphis appearance of the 2003 season, and this weekend’s events will mark the first of three appearances for the series at the ¼ mile, dirt oval this year. Heading into the Memphis event, Kevin Ramey (Texas) leads the top five in series points followed by Darren Stewart (Oklahoma), Zach Chappell (Oklahoma), Gary Wright (Texas), and Travis Rilat (Oklahoma). The traveling, sprint stars will be entering a hornet’s nest this weekend as the Memphis tour stop has long been regarded as one of the toughest on the schedule due to the strong cast of hometown drivers. Thus far into the 2003 season no sprint car driver has won more than a single feature at Memphis Motorsports Park with Darren Stewart, Terry Gray, Mike Ward, and Eddie Gallagher all picking up early-season wins. In addition, the travelers can expect to face the likes of Paul Sides (current MMP points leader), Dale Howard, Marshall Skinner, Ernie Ainsworth, Bryce Vowan, Ronny Howard, Greg Merritt, Jeff Buckner, Ricky Stenhouse, Sonny Sayre, Josh Howard, Henry Gustavus Jr., and many more.

In addition to the ASCS sprint cars, late models and mini stocks occupy the Friday night program, while modifieds, street stocks, and the USMA mini sprints join the sprint cars on the Saturday night program.

On Friday night the pit gate opens at 5:00 with spectator gates opening at 6:00. Hot laps are 7:00 and racing starts at 8:00. On Saturday night, the pit gate opens at 4:00 with spectator gates opening at 5:00. Hot laps are at 6:00 with racing at 8:00.
General admission tickets each night are $15 for adults. Children 12 and under are $5 (Age 5 and under free). Pit passes are $25 each night (or $45 for a two day pass) for ages 12 and up and $15 ($25 for a two day pass) for children 6-11 (Age 5 and under free).
