AMRA ANNOUNCES CHAMPIONS
CLOSE BATTLES TO THE FINISH
Kenny Johnson Doubles as National Champion and Road Warrior Champ
Garnes Three-Peats in Late Models

MT. ALTO, WV-In one of the closest points' battles of the 19-year existence of the American Motor Racing Association (AMRA) Kenny Johnson of Mineral Wells, WV edged out Jeremy Berwanger, Murray City, Ohio 1383 to 1374 points to claim the 2012 AMRA Malta Windows and Doors National Points' Championship. Johnson also doubled as the Road Warrior Challenge champion becoming only the second driver in organization history to win both the touring RWT championship and National Championship.
In the powerful Tru-Tech AMRA Late Model championship, Chris Garnes, Evans, WV won the crown for the third year in a row, posting a 1370 to 1291 point advantage over veteran Andy Bond.
The Award's banquet for AMRA will be November 24 at 6 p.m. at Cedar Lakes Convention Center near Ripley, WV.
Johnson's championship is his third championship in a row, coming against 160 AMRA drivers holding a license in 2012, plus another 50-plus drivers that held a temporary license. Johnson was again the best of the best. Less than 50 points separated the top three drivers--Johnson, Berwanger, and Roy Roush, while just over 100 points separated the top five. The top ten drivers were Johnson, Berwanger, Roush, Robert Garnes, Tyler Carpenter, Joe Cox, Doug Henry, Andy Bond, Jeremy Blake, and Nick Corbitt. Johnson claimed 21 feature wins in 2012 overall.
Berwanger owned Skyline Speedway and had a great first half of the year, winning a reported 12 features overall.
Although 2nd through tenth were close in Road Warrior Malta Mod points, Johnson was the run-away winner in the series with a 540-387 edge over runner-up Nick Corbitt.
Some of the biggest names in racing participated in the AMRA Late Model division, but on a regular weekend basis Chris Garnes was the dominator. Garnes set the stage for his historic 3-year championship run with a World of Outlaw win at I-77 Raceway Park in May. He went on to win 20 features and was recently featured in Dirt Late Model Magazine for the second time.
Rounding out the top ten were Garnes, Andy Bond, Freddie Carpenter, Harold Redman, Rick Williams, Ronnie Mayle, Ralph Withem, Travis Brookover, Tyler Carpenter, and Ed Shuman.
