June 10 & 11 Super Weekend!
AMRA Growth In Virginia A Huge Plus to the Organization
Conner Vital to Expanding the AMRA Brand

MT. ALTO, WV- Just this past week, one of the biggest weekends in AMRA Modified history received the green light as Federated Auto Parts has come aboard with Sprint Cup driver Kenny Schrader for a super open-wheel weekend June 10 and 11 at Natural Bridge Speedway and Beckley Motorsports Park.
These events will be AMRA Road Warrior events and Schrader will be at both speedways in his Federated Auto Parts modified.
The relative close proximity of the two tracks will give AMRA drivers and local favorites a chance to compete for a high-dollar purse and a chance to compete against one of the nation's most versatile drivers.
Says Director of Racing Operations for AMRA, Scott Wolfe, "This is a big deal for both the AMRA and our two sanctioning speedways. To have Federated Auto come aboard is a major boost to what the AMRA and our speedways are trying to do for our racers. Having Ken Schrader join the mix is an added incentive, both for our drivers and the fans."
Said AMRA sponsor Dave Poske of Poske's Performance Parts, "Bringing Federated Auto Parts to the table is in itself a home run for both tracks. This is a boost for everyone involved."
Creating a little hype for the event, Wolfe noted, "I've met Kenny Schrader and he is a great driver and a great person. He is well respected by just about everyone in the business. But the AMRA contingent of driver's has to be out there thinking, "Wouldn't it be nice to get the chance to beat Kenny Schrader?' That alone will get some big-name open wheel drivers out for the weekend."
Part of the success of the AMRA in the Virginia area has been largely do to racer Gary Conner. Having no ties to the AMRA other than being an AMRA member as a racer, Gary Conner has been instrumental in doing what is best for the racer.
Said Wolfe, "Gary is a knowledgeable racer and a walking encyclopedia of racing trivia. Besides that he is a great guy and a great racer. Most of all he is very unselfish, and does a lot of behind-the-scenes work, not only to aid AMRA, but to aid racing in general. His expertise has helped create a high-quality of modified racing in Southern West Virginia and Southward, and helped create a uniform set of rules. "
"Gary does this just because he loves racing and he knows what it takes for racing to survive in these tough economic times. He receives no compensation, just the satisfaction of doing what is in racing's best interest. With Gary's leadership and keen business sense, many other racers have realized some of the benefits of the groundwork he has laid. Thus, these drivers and owners have too become advocates of what the AMRA is trying to do. Thank you Gary for all of your time and effort! Thanks to everyone in the 'Virginia Connection'."
"The AMRA wishes to thank Gary (Conner), our participating tracks, our drivers, owners, our fans and all others who help make the AMRA successful," announced AMRA President Larry Keefer. " I personally appreciate everyone's involvement to improve the AMRA brand name. To this combined effort I offer a sincere 'Thank You' to all involved."
Although not yet a sanctioned AMRA track, County Line Speedway, a 3/8 mile clay oval located at 6953 Stagecoach Road in Elm City, N.C. saw AMRA champ Kenny Johnson, Mineral Wells, WV claim the win last weekend. CLR has been in operation since May 21st, 1988 and sanctions some of the region's biggest shows under AMRA rules.
"We hope someday in the future to expand to North Carolina," hinted Wolfe about the success of AMRA cars appearing at CLR. "Our AMRA boys had a great showing and that speaks highly of our organization. Congratulations to all of our drivers and thanks to CLR for giving our drivers 'up North' a dry place to race."
