thinking a little about building a Jr hornet has anyone tried a ford ranger if so how did it handle Thanks Jeff Gay

FYI, I haven't seen anyone race a Ford Ranger, but I've seen very few competitive trucks in the pro-4 class at any of the tracks. They probably do better at the RAMS type tracks though, since the rules allow a lot more modifications and everyone is rear wheel drive. I imagine all the trucks are at a disadvantage from the start. They are probably heavier to start with and they obviously have a lot higher center of gravity, making them harder to handle. If your dead set on racing a Ranger though, then go for it. At least the parts are plentiful and there is a lot more you can do with the engine than in a S10. I'm racing in a 1969 Datsun 510 now, and although it's slower than most the other cars on the track, it's a lot more fun to race with, than my old car and that's what I do it for. Fun and track time is what this class is supposed to be about...your not gonna get rich racing in this class. Good luck and have fun

There's plenty to do to a s10 motor if you do your reserch or ask around. As far as the height issue an s10 is really easy to lower and the front end is easy to adjust for handling. Weight can be an issue with having the bed skined, but there's nothing that a little lead and placement of lead can't help. An easy to help with weight balance it to eleminate the core support with piping and relocate the radiator to the rear.
