Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (September 12, 2006) – With three drivers engaged in an intense struggle for the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region season championship, the series takes to the semi-banked 3/10-mile Mid-America Speedway clay oval in South Coffeyville, OK, this Saturday night.

A scant 16 points separate the trio of Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Sean McClelland and Kevin Ramey entering Saturday's event, which will serve as an excellent tune-up for Mid-America Speedway's ASCS Sooner Region Nationals on October 7.

Hafertepe, the 20-year-old hotshoe from Sunnyvale, TX, scored one of his three ASCS Sooner Region wins at Mid-America on May 13 and enters the event just eight markers ahead of defending series Sean McClelland of Collinsville, OK. McClelland has matched Hafertepe in the ASCS Sooner Region win column this year with three triumphs.

Just eight more points back in third is two-time ASCS Sooner Region champion Ramey of Fort Worth, TX. Ramey is kicking into championship drive form after winning the series most recent event at Lawton Speedway on August 19.

While the championship is up for grabs with just three events remaining, the fight for fourth is a close one as well with Tulsa's Brian McClelland just seven points ahead of Burleson, TX, racer Johnny "Baja" Miller.

Former series champion J.P. Bailey, hailing from Fort Worth by way of Collinsville, enters the event ranked sixth, with the balance of the top ten including 17-year-old Dex Eaton (Owasso, OK), 18-year-old Eric Baldaccini (Keller, TX), Jimmy Taylor (Oklahoma City, OK) and 18-year-old Justin Melton (Flower Mound, TX).

Saturday's racing action at Mid-America Speedway goes green at 7:00 p.m.

Mid-America Speedway is located in South Coffeyville, OK, just one mile south of the Oklahoma-Kansas state line on US 169, then 0.7 miles west on County Road 2. For more information, contact the track at 918-255-6698.
