Attention Cry Babies

My wife and I think that each and every one of you that make derragatory remarks about running a race track should go buy one. Do you realize how much work is involved??? And money??? Promoters and their faithful employees work their butts off night and day, watering that dusty track and cutting grass, picking up the trash that you threw on the ground the night before. And then there is the office/promotion side of the equation. Running around to the bank, making sure there are plenty of quarters because you griped that soda was too high and the price was changed by a quarter, thus making more change. Oh heaven forbid you pay more for a hamburger at one track than another. Making sure the "big guys" are there for special shows so you can enjoy seeing them run. Even having something nice for the kids. Did you ever try to manage 50 employees? Some better than others, some not as faithful as others. Truly, it is enough to drive a sane person crazy. I have been reading remarks on STL Racing for months and have decided to put my two cents worth in. No I am not Tam or Kevin, and I don't want to be. I realize how hard they and all promoters work, and my daddy always told me if I didn't have anything good to say, don't say nothing at all! He was a wise man and I hope that some of you will take his advice.

Sincerely,

Jack Werner

I agree as would most that it is a tough job owning and running a race track. But just like any business that provides a service, they are subject to scrutiny. I don't think its fair to pick a track/promoter apart for everything. I do think they should take the heat when something done or called is unfair.

Jack you have a good point but as long as no one get's personal WE all pay for the right to say what we want Good or Bad. It's a business that deals with the public and takes their money in good faith. So point out when you think things are not right and Praise when you think they are, It's America Free Speach and pray it never changes.

JUST DON'T GET PERSONAL.

no body is forcing the crybabies to go either. and if nobody ran the track you would have that many less to race or watch at. all the ones that have a problem dont have a problem showing up the next week. also the ones who have something to say about the condition of the track have never raced a car so they have no reason to open thier mouths and the way i see it thier opinoin doesnt matter, like i said you may b**** but im sure you will be there the next week!!!jmo

Aren't you a WIFE of a racer? Then your opinion doesnt matter either because you obviously have no idea when it comes to track conditions.

Track conditions at the start of the LM races was very dangerous due to the dust. More than one car got into the fence due to the lack of visibility.

There are a lot of good points, and as some said its a free country say what ya want...well im not a racer i go to the the races like any other fan...i go to highland a lot and the track gets dry slick from time to time...its a race track they do get dry slick....but charlie gets out their and wets it during intermission to make sure us the fans have good feature races in which they usually do....j/m/o....i dont agree with what saleracing has said though...sometimes you dont have to race a car to get and idea of what the track conditions are like....everyone has their own opinion...and they shouldnt get slammed everytime they state it...its a free country say what ya want as long it doesnt harm anyone else!!

Your "crybaby whining" is someone else's "constructive criticism." If a promoter wants to keep his track open, he will be smart enough to want to hear every complaint, not just the ones he can easily fix. Behind closed doors, that promoter may very well think to himself "these people are stupid, try running a track for a day, see if you can do better" but out in public he must be open and willing to listen to ALL complaints. Even the stupid ones, because stupid people pay money to come to the track and buy food and souvenirs just like everyone else. Besides, just listening and hearing somebody out while they get it of their chest is often all that is required to make the "crybaby" happy, without changing a thing. Good promoters are good people persons, not money counters. Take care of people, and the rest of it will take care of itself.

If it's that bad, get out of the business. Period. My life revolves around listening to people complain about what I write and what I say on the air and people making opinions about my opinions. And no matter how many people I deal with that I have issue with, I love my job and wouldn't do anything else.

Last time I checked, it's a free country and those people who are complaining are still paying for entry into your track. If you're not savvy enough to recognize that, maybe you really should get out of the business and hand it off to someone who understands that people are nothing if not whiny 90% of the time.

you are right i am a wife and not a racer. i have never raced a car i just go off of what my husband and alot of other racers say and prefer. and i think my opinion does matter cause when the fans want to go messin with the track that alot of races like including my husband your messing with a possibly nice paycheck i could use!!! lol...i think some of you are right you should be able to express your opinion to the right person in the right manner so maybe your request will get fofilled, but on the other hand they also have to take in consideration what the drivers like or else they will have no car counts. lets be real how many of you throwing a fit on here insted of talking like a grown up to the right person are never gonna show up at the track again,no most of you will be there next week just to have the same complaints.

All opinions and complaints are equally valid, whether you're a track owner or a driver or just a fan in the stands. I've never raced a car, but having studied racing for years and covered for years, I have a different perspective of it than some people. A wife would have a different perspective. The fan in the stands has a different perspective. The fact is, anyone involved, no matter at what capacity or level, could offer a different and possible insight as to how to make a track better. People like our original poster sounds like the kind of guy who micro-manages everyone around him and NEVER makes a mistake and knows EVERYTHING about everything.

As a fan I pay great attention to the weather prior to a race and also get to the track early enough to watch track pack and hot laps. This has always given me the opportunity to see which guys are fast and were they will probably run on the track throughout the evening. These are things I've done before ever sitting in a race car.
Getting behind the wheel gave me something else to watch for during track pack, it's called moisture. Some tracks water more than others, to each his own, I prefer heavy but have seen excellent races on dry tracks.

That whole rambling was based on judgments that I have made before and after competing.

As far as the "whinning" If the promoter ask for input, which he did, he will have to deal with the repercussions of his request.

I would have to say he's a mature adult and can deal with a few bad comment that really aren't constructive critisim.

Well here comes my two cents worth,
I have been associated with racing in one way or another for over 35 years, car owner, partner, pit man, official, pit steward, line up man, flagman, scorer. I have been on the race track as much as some of the drivers have been, and I have complained and praised. I give my opinion but that don't mean that any one has to accept it if they don't want to. I enjoyed the racing Sunday night at Tri-City it was the best in a while. The only thing was Dave the announcer was doing too much talking, about things he knows very little about, I would like to know how many cars there use alcohol, not as many as use gas i bet, if any. I think they should get a pair of binoculars in the tower so they can see who has spun out when they spin out and poor wade glover was wade SLOVER almost all night long, If he isn't sure of what is going on maybe he should just not say anything and not make him look so stupid. George does a great job but he doesn't announce enough. Maybe dave should stay 60 miles north. he likes it and lives there of course hes welcome to come watch the races something he needs to get used to doing.Well thats my two cents worth, track a little dusty to start but was ok in feature.

JJ1 DW glad you brought up the fact that Dave got it wrong calling Wade's last name different than it is,(We got a laugh out of it)....HOWEVER, where was George while this was going on? Probably standing right next to him. He could have corrected him, and should have, anytime I am sure but what the heck lets let the new guy look STUPID again......Maybe Doug carried George, too. With Doug's knowledge of the St.Louis racing world he would be an asset to any track announcers job. Some people sitting behind us were complaining about George, too. So I guess its a toss-up.
