There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, Nov 22nd at 6:30 pm in the Expo basement to discuss having a combined sportsman/b-mod class at the Highland Speedway. We urge you to come if you are serious about competing in this class at Highland Speedway in 2012. If you are a sportsman or a b-mod driver who can’t make the meeting, please call the track at 618-654-6656 and leave a message with a call back number. This is just an informational meeting so no more than 2 people per car. Thanks, Sue Z

what type of rules are they looking at? like a wissota or imca sport mod or some odd ball set of rules? which brings up a whole different subject

i will keep a open mind at the start,,as some of you know i run a sportsman (several)and a late model,,the late model is not a very competive car,on the other hand two of my sportsman are,the 7 car of ponder and the yellow 1 car (the old bohensteel 15 car)both have won features this year,,fact is i can be some what competive in the sportsman but driving my late model is hard on my old body (LOL)that is why i was upset when highland dropped the sportsman as i consider it my home track..the financial part asside the fact of driving in a class that i enjoy being part of is first and formost to me...as i see it highland is making a attempt to give the sportsman guys a chance to run with some type of modifaction and i am sure a engine rule and get a b-mod type of car introduced at highland,i knew this was in the works for several weeks...as you can imagine i have my own ideas on how this can be done and if were not midnight(us old guys need our rest)i would post them..thanks,,lenny garson

If they ran Fulton Rules they would get a good car count. With no place to run with on Saturday nights this would be great place to go.

From what I understand after talking to Scott is he is thinking about running a Wednesday night show for B-Mods, Sportsmen, a beginners hornet class and maybe a 4th class (Suggestions anyone? something that currently doesn't have a weekly track) If you want to support any of these classes you should make a point and show up. There are a lot of hurdles to jump for this to happen and Scott is willing to do this IF you racers are willing to commit.

micros? or maybe mod lites& dwarfs something that might draw a different crowd and the clossest track to even run both of these is sir, doe run .

This would be great to have a track to go to on weds night. It's hump day and maybe there is a chance of getting quarter midgets or something for the younger crowd in there. The b mods or sportsman would bring in a good crowd you would think.. I hope they work something out.

is there any other tracks beside highland considiring running b-mods? i sure hope so as would hate to build one just to run one track would like to have more than one track to run at.

IMO the wednesday night thing will not work. Too many people work and or work the following day and dont want to be out late on a weekday. Maybe you would have a ok car count but even that is questionable in my opinion. The stands would be empty though. Even though the lower classes are great a put on a heck of a show alot of times the majority of the people come to see the late models and modifieds.

too faustfan2....the closest place to run a b-mod now would be farmington. I dont see any other tracks in this area bringing them in. Nothing against the class bc i think i would be a great class as far as car counts go within a couple years. But all the tracks in the area already have 5 divisions and all draw decent car counts. The only thing i could see is other tracks having them as a support class for special shows but highly doubt anyone brings them in for a weekly show besides highland possibly.

good luck though to highland speedway in bringing in this class possibly for 2012. if it works for highland other tracks may look into it in the future too! So if you want them at your track make sure to support this.

I think your putting the wrong two classes together here. B-mods should be a class of their own un-bastardized and you should combine the sportsman and bomber classes. The cars are all ready relatively close. Allow the bomber cars who aren't utilizing suspension helpers such as weight jacks, pull bars, and etc a lower weight restriction and a four barrel. You'll pull the b-town guys who have wanted to race highland and couldn't due to the restrictions. Or just create an out law class where the only rules pertain to safety. Which is pretty close to what the highland sportsman were the last few years any how.

Just my two cents.

Wednesday wont work, clearly sportsmans wont either. Id say there are probably 500 obsolete mods in a 50 mile radius, I have 3 anybody need one? And thats a real conservative number, let them run a 602 or basic 2 barrell motor and see what you get. I guarantee they will have more than 10 cars show up every week. Something like this needs to happen before its too late.

Belleville should dump the A-Mods and go strictly B-Mods only... Most nights they only 12-15 A-Mods (and many of those could be classified as B-Mods)..

By mid-season, they would probably be getting 25 B-Mods a night.

This might be a dumb question, but what is a B mod? Is it a normal ump mod with steel heads?
Adam

Adam, a B-mod has to run a 9" rearend. The motor is pretty much an Allied sportsman engine with an open intake. They run with a 2-barrel and they are on 3-link rear suspension. Otherwise its just a modified.

some places are 355, steel head no roller, some are like the highland sportsman rules. some places allow berts and brinns, some are 3 disk and 3 speed. some places allow birdcages, some places are solid mount 3 link, some places make you run stock 4 link like a bomber car. just about everywhere is on a 2 barrel.

from what i have seen the class is just about like the sportsman class, not many tracks have the same rules.

You have fast late models and slow late models... so lets keep with the theme... fast modifieds and slow modifieds... yee haa!!!!!!! Just for good measure let's get rid of the bombers and add another hornet class so we can have a fast hornet class and a slow hornet class!!!! Should do wonders for beer sales!!!!

WOW this is awsome I cant wait to see what the rules are. Also running a night in the middle of the week may bring in a good crowd, people are always looking for somthing to do and alot of them love racing, Let's see what happens good luck to everyone working on this program,,, Ya Gotta Love racing.............
