Attn all racers-makes sure your trailers are up to current laws!

State and local authorities are cracking down on tow rigs Like making sure break away devices are there and working Electric brakes are installed and working And as i found out doesnt matter if the trailer was originally made without brakes It was a homemade trailer and with dual axles Anything over 3000 lbs must have electric brakes If 5000 lbs must have a break away device and MUST be working! Id bet alot dont as they see operated on a small lawn mower type battery They are checking them and writing tickets No exceptions Missiouri is different Dont need any brakes unless its a kingpin or 5th wheel trailer Just a heads up ive heard 3 people got popped within last 2 weeks so wasnt iust me
 
I was told this and i looked on a site pertaining to break away's and thats what it said Had each state laws individually listed Its iust what i read Either way im getting mine in line now and just warning others
 
Triple a's website shows same thing about missouri Unless it was changed recently Just letting people know and to charge the batteries for their break away's They are checking them all
 
Brakes only required on gooseneck or 5th wheel or trailer over 3000gvw if hauling hazardous waste. Tag utility trailers are not mentioned single or dual
 
Im just repeating what i was told and nothing was said about hauling haz mat Nothing on any site ive seen says hazmat either Plus talked to the state today and was told anything 3000 pds must have electric brakes No exceptions
 
I know alot about hauling hazmat and never have i seen anything stating 3000 pds if hauling hazmat Plus if you get into that your talking placards msd's different insurance ect Whole new can of worms there
 
Yea thats the weird part Just about every state is different It was the federal goverment who wanted them installed yet states take a different approach as looking for them I went to a class on the break away's when they were first coming out I asked how are the batteries going to be kept charged Answer was they never go dead since they never get used Weird response Guessing they never had a lawn mower battery go bad over the winter and it does get used
